In the late 1970s the Oldsmobile Cutlass was America's best-selling passenger car. While the name was first used in the early '60s on sporty versions of Oldsmobile's intermediate F-85, as time went on the name was applied to a variety of cars targeting a variety of markets. Oldsmobile's latest Cutlass is a generously equipped, aggressively priced sedan that replaced the Ciera in 1997 and is aimed squarely at the midsize market territory dominated by Honda, Toyota and Ford. Cutlass shares its basic platform with the Chevy Mailbu, and while each is available in two trims, the Oldsmobile is better equipped with standard features.
