The Mountaineer is Mercury’s premium midsize SUV which is built on the same platform as the Ford Explorer. The Mountaineer was introduced in 1997 and was totally redesigned for 2002 with a standard third-row fold-flat seat. For 2006 the Mountaineer received another makeover, inside and out.
