Introduction
The Mercury Mariner Hybrid is Mercury’s gasoline-electric hybrid version of the compact SUV which is based on the Ford Escape and was introduced in 2005. The Mariner Hybrid was originally planned as a 2007 model, but was pulled ahead a full year to debut as a 2006 model in response to increased interest in gasoline-electric hybrid vehicles. The Mariner Hybrid is configured as a full hybrid and is able to run up to 30 mph powered only by electric power. During coasting, at a stop, or a low speeds, the gasoline engine automatically shuts down. For 2008 the Mariner Hybrid received its first major redesign with updates to the exterior, interior and an upgraded chassis.
