This personal luxury coupe was redesigned in 1997, where the big news was new front and rear light treatments. Up front on all Mark VIIIs are high-intensity-discharge headlights, which are nearly three times brighter than ordinary halogen lights, according to the automaker. At the rear, Lincoln lays claim to the world's first automotive production application of neon lighting, which is used in the car's center stop lamp. The Mark VIII competes with an eclectic group of expensive personal luxury coupes from Europe and Japan, and while its specifications may be in line with its competitors, the Lincoln continues to struggle within this lofty market segment.
