Introduced in 1994, the Sephia was the first car sold in America under the Kia name; however, Sephia was not actually the first Kia sold in the U.S. That distinction goes to the Ford Festiva, which Kia built for Ford from 1987 to 1992. The Sephia is based on the 1990-94 Mazda Protege, and like other Korean cars it boasts a high level of equipment at a low price. For the 1998 model year the Sephia was redesigned, featuring a new look and more room than its predecessor.
