Isuzu first introduced the Trooper to the U.S. market in the early '80s, long before sport-utility vehicles became the hot sellers they are today. That first Trooper, which had been on sale throughout Asia and South America for many years before arriving in the U.S., was very Spartan, and definitely more utility than sport. Isuzu originally entered the U.S. market under its own name with a full line of cars and trucks, but has since discontinued its passenger-car line. Over the years the Trooper, like most other Japanese sport utilities, has grown in size and price.
