The Sonata Hybrid was Hyundai’s first hybrid vehicle for the U.S. market, based on the midsize Sonata sedan and powered by Hyundai’s Direct Hybrid Blue Drive system. A full parallel hybrid system, Direct Hybrid Blue Drive allows the Sonata Hybrid to be driven in fully electric drive mode at speeds up to 62 miles per hour. At a complete stop and when the electrical load is low, the engine shuts down completely to eliminate idle fuel consumption and emissions.
