The Fusion Hybrid is Ford’s midsize hybrid sedan, based on the redesigned Fusion. The new Fusion a sleek profile and a bold design intended to create more visual interest than the previous conservative design. The Fusion Hybrid was Ford’s first hybrid sedan when it debuted as a 2010 model and the first vehicle to use Ford’s next-generation hybrid system that combines a new 155-horsepower Atkinson Cycle 2.5-liter engine, continuously variable transmission (CVT), electric motor and a smaller nickel-metal hydride battery. The battery is more efficient and the weight of the system is reduced by 145 lbs. The Fusion Hybrid can reach speeds of up to 47 mph on electric power alone and according to Ford the range is more than 700 miles. Fusion Hybrid also includes Ford’s new SmartGauge with EcoGuide that features two high-resolution screens that can be configured to show fuel and battery levels and average and instant mpg.
