Targeting younger customers inclined to favor European styling, Cadillac introduced its version of European automotive luxury in 1997, the Catera. Built in Germany and based on the German Opel Omega MV6, Catera was developed by engineers in both the U.S. and Europe. A powerful V6 engine drives the rear wheels; the car displays all the engineering features typical of similar vehicles designed for Germany's high-speed Autobahns. In keeping with Cadillac's luxury car reputation, Catera matches the comfort and convenience features offered by its competitors. The Catera Sport was added to the line in May of 1999 to appeal to buyers who prefer a higher level of handling and control.
