Introduction
The BMW Z8 was first shown at the 1999 Frankfurt Auto Show, although its history begins well before that date. In the early 1950s, BMW introduced a model called the 507, which was designed by Count Albrecht Goertz. The 507 had a long hood, a wide kidney grille, and V8 power. Fast forward to 1997. BMW unveiled a concept at the Tokyo auto show called the Z07, which incorporated many of the styling cues from the 507. After very favorable public reaction, BMW decided to put the Z07 into production; however, the model was renamed the Z8. Only a few hundred of these supercars will find their way to the U.S. each year, so if you want one, you'd better get in line.
