The X6 ActiveHybrid is BMW’s first production hybrid vehicle that BMW describes as offering an increase in driving dynamics, along with a reduction in fuel consumption of approximately 20 percent compared with a comparable vehicle powered by a combustion engine alone. BMW’s two-mode hybrid system combines a 400-horsepower twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engine with two electric synchronous motors developing 91 horsepower and 86 horsepower respectively. Total system output is 480 horsepower and 575 lb-ft of torque. The X6 ActiveHybrid can run up to a speed of 37 mph on electric power alone. A NiMH high-performance battery pack is positioned underneath the cargo area.
