The 6-Series is BMW’s luxury coupe and convertible line. The luxury coupe is a traditional segment for BMW and the 6-Series debuted in the late 1970s, running through the 1989 model year, with the 635 CSi becoming one of the most recognized BMW models. The 6-Series returned for 2004 with both coupe and convertible versions. In 2012, the 6-Series was redesigned in all-new 650i coupe and covertible models that made extensive use of aluminum in the chassis and structure for strength and lower weight. The engine was changed to the twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 also found in the BMW 550i and 750i/Li and mated to an 8-speed automatic or 6-speed standard transmission.
