The 1-Series is BMW’s small 4-seat coupe and convertible that BMW describes as inspired by the legendary BMW 2002 from the 1960s. The 1-Series features rear-wheel drive, agile handling and powerful engines. The 1-Series convertible followed the early 2008 introduction of the coupe, but no plans have been announced to import the 5-door hatchback sold in Europe. In 2012, the BMW added the 1-Series Coupe to the M performance lineup. Essentially a BMW M3 chassis with Competition Package packed into a modified 1-Series body, the 1-Series M Coupe features a 335-horspower inline-6 engine with a temporary torque overboost function good for an extra 37 lb-ft and posts a 0-to-60 mph time of 4.6 seconds. It is delivered with a 6-speed manual transmission only, and the exhaust system is tuned to deliver BMW's characteristically throaty sound.
