Savana redefined by Chandlerazman on 02/08/2008. Trim: 2008 GMC Savana Cargo Van G2500 Extended Wheelbase RWD, Owned 1 year.
Pros: This van has quality built into it. I have driven a few variants of cargo vans over the years and find the 2008 GMC Savana a very well built machine. There were no noticable rattles for a month of hard use prior to having shelving installed. The onboard computer is a nice feature that reminds you of tire pressure, oil changes/life, fuel economy and more. This feature is included on even the base van. The 6.0 litre engine is a must for these vans if you are going to be jobbing out if it. Average fuel economy on my van with the 6.0 litre is 13.2 MPG on a daily basis. Not too bad for the power it gives. The interior feels more upscale and professional on a business level. Seats are comfortable.
Cons: If you are hauling alot of weight, the 6.0 is a must! Adding extra circuits will prove to be a little fussy on this new van. The wiring is the latest and greatest of GM and is designed to be troublefree. You will need to dedicate circuits from the battery rather than the harness. Fuel economy could be improved on the larger engines. There is no active cylinder management as offered on the pickups. Driver side swing out access doors not offered on extended vans.
Overall review: This is the best value in my opinion compared to the other vans in the same class. The extended version of the Savana is really cavernous and allows more materials/hauling for the fuel economy. I recommend this van to any business person who wants a smart looking and comfortable driver. GM has raised the bar on reliability and quality. The undercarriage is assembled with precision using quality parts. The chrome appearance package adds only $355 and transforms the vehicle into a professional looking van with chrome grille, composite halogen lighting and chrome bumpers.
