Don's Fleetwood Brougham Update by Don from Houston, Texas on 02/11/2004. Trim: 1993 Cadillac Fleetwood Sedan, Owned 6 years.
Pros: Since my last rating in 2000, I have driven the car to 185,000 miles with no serious mechanical or accessory problems. It still drives a like a dream not to mention looks elegant. I plan on keeping this car indefinitely (replacing engine and transmission if needed). It still burns no oil after 185,000 miles. It runs fine on regular gas.
Cons: I was concerned about chrome being loose on the exterior of the body...but the chrome is still on the car and looking good. Some of the interior plastic (ie: door handles used to pull the door closed) is starting to fail after 11 years of use. The seats (leather) are still firm and comfortable, but driver's seat leather is starting to split at the edges.
Overall review: Overall, I love this car and will continue to drive it as my daily driver for many years to come. It is worth the cost of routine repairs and maintenance to keep it compared to the $80,000 plus that I would have to spend to buy a new car of comparable comfort, safety and elegance in 2004. Unfortunately, Cadillac has stopped making "real" Cadillacs like the 1993 Fleetwood Brougham. Perhaps they'll resume production of a similar car some day.
