The Pathfinder is one of the last SUVs to change from a truck-based platform to a modern crossover configuration. The new version is a three-row vehicle, with seating for seven, that is similar to the Infiniti JX. The redesign brings a quieter, more spacious interior. The powertrain is a 3.5-liter V6 engine coupled to a new continuously variable transmission. It has a competitive towing capability of 5,000 pounds. Nissan claims a 25-percent fuel economy improvement over the outgoing model. In our tests of the JX, we've found it to be plush and quiet, but handling agility falls short.
