Agility, ride, transmission, fit and finish, trunk.
The Regal is a well-honed sports sedan with a taut and steady ride, sporty handling, and quick, direct steering. Wind noise is well suppressed. The 220-hp, 2.0-liter turbo version we tested is quick, fairly quiet, and delivered 23 mpg overall when paired with the smooth six-speed automatic. The nicely furnished interior has firm, supportive seats and excellent fit and finish, but the rear seat is snug. The base car uses the same eAssist mild hybrid that got 29 mpg overall in the Chevrolet Malibu we tested. The GS is a high-performance turbo version. For 2014, the Regal gets a freshening, along with a 259-hp turbo and available AWD.
