Constant Problems
by An MSN Autos Consumer on 01/25/2008.
Trim: 2002 Subaru Impreza Wagon 2.5 TS, Owned 6 years.

Pros:
The vehicle handles well in the snow and had excellent storage.
Cons:
The car constantly needs to be serviced, costing a lot of money and taking a lot of time.
Overall review:
After only five years of ownership and a little over 80K miles, I have had to sink (literally) thousands of dollars to maintain and repair this vehicle (even with the warranty). The last straw has to be the dealer's recommendation that the head gasket be replaced (it's leaking oil) and replacing the front brakes (again!) It's been a frustrating, disappointing experience.

A zippy little sport wagon.

Trim: 2002 Subaru Impreza Wagon 2.5 TS, Owned 3 years.

Pros:
It has literally been problem-free. Fun, comfortable and easy to drive. Plenty of pep.
Cons:
The tight hydraulic clutch takes some getting used to.
Overall review:
I have enjoyed owning the zippy little wagon. The size is right for me, she is fast and fun but still has enough space for junk if I fold down the back seat. I have a 5-speed manual transmission, and I find it an easy-shifting little package.

The Rally Car Express
by Keith from Sacramento, CA on 09/30/2003.
Trim: 2002 Subaru Impreza Wagon WRX, Owned less than 1 year.

Pros:
Outstanding acceleration and handling from the 227-hp turbo flat four and All-Wheel Drive combined with comfortable seats and great cargo room. I like the styling of the car, love the fully-blown aluminum hood. The countoured front seats are very comfortable and keep you in place in hard driving. Oustanding traction from the AWD. Quick, predictable handle, incredibly responsive and reliable, will make you feel like you are driving a $50,000 sports car. The 6-disc CD player is great, and the stock sound system is not bad at all, although it could be better.
Cons:
Black fabric interior gets very hot inside in the sun. It would be nice to have a sunroof, I'm thinking of putting one in. Sometimes difficult to shift into first or reverse from a stop, shifter could be faster and smoother. Turbo lag can be somewhat obnoxious, my car tends to stall a little bit when I first start accelerating from a stop before kicking in, but maybe it is just my driving ability that's the issue. Dash is a little cheap and plastic-looking, but not to the point of being ugly.
Overall review:
I absolutely love this car. I haven't had it long enough to evaluate it's mechanical reliability, but so far (6 months, got it used with 21,500 miles on it) I have had no problem whatsoever. It's the perfect car for blasting down twisty mountain roads - and also for going to get the groceries. It accelerates like it is on fire, and corners like it is on rails, but still behaves like a mild-mannered small sedan when you keep the RPMs under 3500.

Overall review:
The 2002 WRX Wagon is the ultimate BANG for the BUCK. With 227 hp, this baby ROARS to life at 3000RPMs. 0-60 in 5.4 secs is incredible in most cars, this is a STATION WAGON! Thanks SUBARU!!!
