Las Vegas Lemon 2002 Q45
by Disgruntled in Las Vegas but still fighting the system on 03/16/2005.
Trim: 2002 Infiniti Q45, Owned 3 years.

Pros:
Style & comfort
Cons:
I have had nothing but transmission problems with this car since I drove it off the lot over 3 years ago. I took it back to the dealership within weeks of purchasing it and the dealership has never been able to correct the problem. They even had Infiniti people down to look at my car & still nothing. I have had 3 transmissions in my car since I purchased it, which proves they know there is a problem but I have worse transmission slippage today than the first time I took it in for them to look at. I even lost a transmission out of the car driving 75 miles per hour on the freeway in rush-hour travel. They only tell me it is a "character flaw" on that model.
Overall review:
I would NEVER purchase another Infiniti due to their lack of concern with my issue nor recommend it to others. I asked for a new replacement car from Infiniti immediately after I realized they weren't going to be able to fix it & Infiniti refused.

Pros:
Initial build quality and performance
Cons:
Ongoing issues, driver seat continues to slip, oil burning requires quart every 1,000 mile or so, they say this is NORMAL! Brakes had to be replaced within 15k. Tire losing air through bad valve sensor. Alarm going off intermittently. Radio had intermittent problems, Definitely issues that have really turned me off to looking at a fx45. Dealer has tried, and the oil burning issue is a killer. This could be just a fluke. Ask about it.
Overall review:
I really loved this car initially. If they would give me a real answer on the oil I might consider going back to them. Until then, I am back to Lexus.

Pros:
Got my Q in March 2002 as a company car. I looked at ALL the competition and kept coming back to the Q for overall value. For the money, I don't think you can touch it. Honkin' V8 (this is a sweet sweet engine), very well done interior (although, the instrument pod can be cleaned up some), and I think the car is very attractive (albeit a personal opinion).
Cons:
Resale value stinks. If you lease, then this might not be a concern, but if you are going to buy and plunk down $50K, beware. MB and BMW hold value much better. Infiniti/Nissan is on a roll currently with some extraordinary product (Z, G35, FX, etc) and I think over time they may be able to move the Infiniti brand name up the prestige curve which will help resale. But until that happens, be ready to take a beating when you sell it.
Overall review:
Bottom line: I'd get another Q in a second. I still can't find a car that comes close for the price. Show me another V8 with this much grunt (more than the S430, A8, 745i), a lovely interior, and this much interior room (not as big as the cars above but also $25K+ less expensive too) that you can get for under $50k. I dare ya!

A bargain luxury car.

Pros:
The acceleration and the engine performance in general is superb. The transmission shifts very quietly with no hesitation (smoother than Lexus). The brakes are also quite good as is the handling. It is a firm enough ride to be safe in the corners and yet quite comfortable.
Cons:
The logic of the interrior controls is perplexing. The analog clock is a poor design for legibility and is in a poor location. The trunk counter balance springs are substandard (cheap), there should be a pneumatic strut. The trunk is a little small for the overall size of the car.
Overall review:
We traded a Lexus 400 in on this new Infiniti and after more than a year we are completely satisfied with the change. It is totally trouble free. We have had no problems. It is an excellent car for either man or woman.
