MPV...Most Preferred Van!!!
by Ms. Kitkat from Indiana... on 10/01/2001.
Trim: 2001 Mazda MPV ES, Owned less than 1 year.

Pros:
It's not what I like about this van...it's about what I love. I never wanted to be a van owner soccer mom (our kids play tennis), BUT I can't imagine being without my MPV!!! We purchased the model with the TV/VCR and my husband and son who hates shopping now both sit in the back seats snacking & watching movies while my daughter and I shop, with no complaints! PLENTY of storage room, people friendly, and one of the best features is the roll down side windows! The engine is so quiet there were several times we tried to start it when it was already started!!! We have owned this van for aprox. 2months and I am happy, and you know what they say when mom is happy....everybody's happy! :)
Cons:
There is two things to mention that we don't like and that is the STINKY exhaust (rotten egg odor)!!! We took it to the dealer and they couldn't detect the problem...we'll give it another couple months or so and see if it goes away..changing gas grades/companies didn't help. The 2nd thing is the lack of power seats and power side doors, but I would say I still have my cake and am eating it too! :)
Overall review:
I would highly recommend this MPV to everyone who likes the car like ride but the van like room...it is the ultimate ride! As my kids would say: It's "SWEEEET".

An Adequate Family Car
by Emil from Boca Raton on 02/04/2004.
Trim: 2001 Mazda MPV DX, Owned 2 years.

Pros:
Comfortable, reliable, good family car
Cons:
Very week engine. The Air Condition can not keep up with the hot summers in South Florida.
Overall review:
Since I live in South Florida where we do not have many hills or mountains to clime, the week engine is not a very big problem. However, the Air Condition is a problem.

Decent for the price but Not the BEST van ever!
by An MSN Autos Consumer on 10/23/2003.
Trim: 2001 Mazda MPV LX, Owned 1 year.

Pros:
We like the fold down rear seat and the way it looked when we first bought it. The crash test reviews are excellent and it does drive well. The middle windows roll down, which is nice, but only half way.
Cons:
This van "dings" extremely easy and therefore looks terrible after only having it for a year. It is also a solid "blind spot" when trying to change lanes etc. The middle row seats do not recline near enough. And we expected to have rear heat only to find that it was just air. I don't know if they all do it, but, ours is really loud when idleing (especially when the air is on). It doesn't get very good gas milage for a nissan either. (maybe 14 or 15 mpg) I guess I really have a lot of cons don't I? Sorry, I didn't realize how much i didn't like it.
Overall review:
I wouldn't say that I don't recommend it, but I definitly won't buy another one. I personally need something with more muscle.

Very good but could have been better
by pipechief, Raleigh NC on 10/09/2003.

Pros:
Easy to drive and well-engineered interior. It as been very dependable with only two minor repairs.
Cons:
Seat cushioning is too thin and becomes uncomfortable on long trips. Engine is underpowered and frequently shifts to lower gears in a power-nead situation.
Overall review:
Very satisfied except for the "cons".

In a word, GREAT.
by pipechief on 03/13/2002.
Trim: 2001 Mazda MPV ES, Owned 1 year.

Pros:
Have had it almost a year. The hand brake needed adjustment, took almost 10 minutes, otherwise no problems whatsoever. Handles like a dream at all speeds. Even with the small engine it still has plenty of pep. The disappearing 3rd seat is a work of art.
Cons:
Slightly crowded for rear passangers but if we had wanted a big van would have gone to a Detroit-made vehicle with all its problems. Seat cushions are a bit thin.
Overall review:
Definitely recommend, presume the 2002s are just as good.
