Better than expected fuel efficient 4x4 small SUV
by David from Ontario on 05/20/2009.
Trim: 2001 Suzuki Vitara JX 4-Door, Owned 1 year.

Pros:
I love the true four wheel drive capability on a truck style ladder frame. It also gets great gas mileage. I drive at the speed limit now, to conserve gas, and avarage 27 mpg. With gas prices moving back up again, I don't envy those who chose to go with larger SUVs. My off road needs include living in a very snowy part of the world, and I also use it in the spring and summer to find out of the way photography spots. It takes me, my photo gear and my dog anywhere I have asked it to go.
Cons:
Sometimes quite bumpy at speed - a drawback of ladder frame rather than independent front and rear suspension.
Overall review:
Overall a great little SUV. The true 4x4 capability, combined with good fuel mileage, and decent dependability and reliability are all big pluses, and factored into my decision to buy this vehicle. I'm a happy camper.

Pros:
the styling is great, the 2wd version will handle mild obsticles, easy to work on for home mechanics. soft top is very easy to remove and install. i love the fact that you could tilt back the sunroof if you don't want to take off the entire top. has tons of headroom and lots of cargo room with the rear seats folded down.
Cons:
the gas milage was lower than expected, seats a little uncomfortable, my geo metro has more leg room. trim and panels seem cheaply made, too much road noise, but with a soft top, that is expected. the a/c blower motor is the major weak point in the car. also the window tracks guids seem to wear. they function correctly with a little adjustment.
Overall review:
overall, this is a pretty decent vehicle. i got rid of a jeep wrangler to buy this suzuki, and it was a good exchange. the suzuki has more power that the 6cyl jeep did, and gets better gas milage than it. the parts are a little pricy, but they are not needed as much as other cars. i would recommend this car to anybody who does not have a large family.

Tough little SUV

Pros:
I have the 2 door convertable 4x4. I love the truck frame and the 4x4 system. I have never been stuck and have taken it to some pretty harsh excursions (Deep sand, Paragon PA offroad park, 2 feet of snow). This thing just keeps on pulling. More bang for your buck than a Jeep, and probably less problems. It is a unique vehicle too(the 2 door). I love this thing and look foward to many years of service.
Cons:
The stereo is weak especially with the top down. No security for valuables with the soft top. It has small tires, so I put a 2.5" suspension lift on mine and put on LT235 75 15 mud tires on. It looks mean. Also no skid plates for off roading (made my own). Maybe a little more power.
Overall review:
Overall this is a great little truck for the price. The modern day samuari. It is decent on gas, can keep up with jeeps and the like on the trails, and looks great. Comfortable, and peace of mind. I have only changed the oil and front brake pads so far with 40,000 miles on my Suzuki. I paid $10,000 for mine used with 18k miles on it. Have had no problems as of yet. The cheapest worry free convertible out there. Love it.
