My SL1 2.2 has been pretty reliable
by Karl from Riverdale NJ on 07/18/2008.
Trim: 2001 Saturn LS1, Owned 7 years.
1
Pros:
I bought the 2.2L SL1 4-dr new in 2001. Now I have @ 80k miles on it with very few problems.
Gets @ 24 mpg overall. 4-cyl is surprisingly quick.
Cons:
Saturn recall on the tail lights (they fixed no prob).
Had dealer replace a "main" computer module a few weeks back.
Doesn't handle rough roads too well (had something replaced in front end suspension)
so I carefully avoid bumps & potholes.
Overall review:
The sucker has been pretty reliable these last 7 years.

Best Commuter
by GM convert on 07/26/2007.
Trim: 2001 Saturn LS2, Owned less than 1 year.
1
Pros:
Surprisingly peppy v6, comfortable ride, completely invisible to police, nice leather seats, powered incline seats, gotta love it for the price.
Cons:
Incredibly poor gas mileage for the "umph" the car puts out. My 2002 Z06 gets 19-28 compared to the LS2's 20-26. That's for less than half the horsepower and similiar weight.
Overall review:
Other than the poor fuel economy I think it is an probably the best commuter car on the road, period.
Better than a Scion, better than a Civic, better than a Taurus. Great beater, great trip car, great commuter.

Don't buy this car
by Dissatisfied in LA on 10/26/2005.
Trim: 2001 Saturn LS2, Owned 4 years.
1
Pros:
Looks great in white with window tint.
Love the 4 cylinder ecotec engine.
Low end accelration is very good.
Sound system is very good
Cons:
Found out afdter the warranty expired that water (gallons and gallons) will collect in the trunk after heavy rains.
AC compressor gave out at fifty thousand miles.
Saturn knows that the oil sprayer for the timing chain is too small and that the timing chain will break on you (thus destroying your engine). Saturn is being a weasel about recalling cars to installa better spray nozzle.
Accelerated tread wear. Your fifty thousand mile tires will last thirty thousand.
Paint is way to fragile. Front hood paint is pitted from insect impacts.
Initial fit of body parts is poor.
Overall review:
Do not buy this car. Saturn used to stand for quality. Don't believe it. Buy an american built 2006 sonata instead. You get a better car
