Driver's Truck by The Driver on 04/08/2005. Trim: 2001 Chevrolet S10 Pickup LS Ext. Cab 2WD, Owned 2 years.

Pros: This is my Second review I have written here. I write again to give an update from a year ago. I now have 67,000 miles on my 01. It has been a great little truck. PROS: Best interior room over its competitors. Comfortable seats, good seating position, well laid out controls. Great power from the 4.3 V6. I towed a 6000lb Uhaul 1600 miles with ease-albeit with 12 MPG. Proven reliability. I have only replaced the A/C compressor. Handles predictably. Ex-Cab makes good storage with easy-access 3rd door. Clean looks and lines. Definitely a CHEVY.
Cons: Not much to complain about here. As I put more and more miles on this truck, it shows it's a Chevy. My biggest issue is...It rattles, and it shakes and it squeaks. Some rattles have disappeared only to have new ones pop up. The 3rd door is the most annoying. I have seriously considered welding it shut. The dash rattles inside as well. There is a knock in the passenger side somewhere I can't find. Gas mileage is poor (15 MPG). Factory stereo is barely adequate with only speakers in front. (I upgraded so it is not an issue with me). Ex-cab not for riding-only for storing (unless you want to punish those you don't like). Narrow skinny factory tires-also upgraded so not an issue any more.
Overall review: Overall-this is more of an update of how I have done with this particular truck. I have owned 2 S-10's of the current generation. One a '95 and now this '01. I loved my 95 and wouldn't have bought the 01 if I didn't. This is a great "little" truck. I emphasize little, because it is. But it was the largest in its class for the time. I have had nary a problem with my 01. The A/C was the only issue. I have owned for almost 3 years and over 40,000 miles. I drive hard. I am on my 3rd set of tires in that 40,000 and it's not because the tires are cheap. A few things to keep in mind. This current S-10 is not without its flaws. It has issues. But compared to any other small truck, the S-10 will come out on top. The only one better might be Toyota in terms of quality, but it is underpowered and undersized. I'd buy another if GM still made them and will drive this one till the wheels fall off. Overall decent build quality, better than average reliability and tops in performance and power.
