Typical early 90s' American made junk
by A CarPoint Consumer on 12/13/2001.
Trim: 1990 Ford Taurus L, Owned 10 years.
1
Pros:
Easy to find parts for, and relatively cheap to fix.
Cons:
breaks too much, rusts, no pickup for a 3.0 V6.
Overall review:
There is a good reason for there being so many at your local scrap yard.

Pros:
I bought my Taurus new, and because the Taurus was the first of its kind for style, it doesn't yet look outdated even after 11 years. It was always reliable. Little things like the automatic fuel door opener and the audio signal for 'key in the ignition' still work. Interior materials have held up extraordinarily well. Mileage was always good.
Cons:
There was recall for faulty seatbelts, which were replaced. The fuel pump needed replacement after 9 years, and also had the A/C retro fitted - same time frame. The only problem I have now is with the radio, and the hydraulic thingy that holds open the hood. (So I prop it up the old fashioned way) I would've liked a console, too.
Overall review:
Given that this car is almost 12 years old, I'm writing this as a kind of historical document. No one could honestly recommend buying a 12 year old car, could they? But it is the most reliable auto I ever owned. If I should need a new car it will be nothing but a Taurus, next time probably a wagon. Only thing is, I don't want to part with this one.

Forget a '58 Plymouth, Christine lives as a '90 Taurus!
by A CarPoint Consumer on 08/03/2001.
Trim: 1990 Ford Taurus GL, Owned more than 10 years.

Pros:
Well........ it did start everytime and run decently.
Cons:
Body rot and rust was huge on this car, and it was only a few years old when it started rusting and the paint was cracking and peeling. The AC condensor went out at around 90K and cost a fortune to replace. For awhile the headlights would go very dim and get bright again (electrical system and alternator checked, no defects found - shades of Christine!). The wipers would only work on high-speed only or everytime you signaled for a left turn, the radio would sometimes blare its volume VERY loudly without even touching the volume knob (Christine...), it developed a very loud and embarrasing rattle in the rear of the car, even when driving over smooth roads.
Overall review:
Was a decent car when new, then suddenly all these bizarre things started happening to it, it almost became humorous. Now I know where Steven King gets the inspiration for his movies.

For a used car this was a great buy. It is showing it's age but I have no regrets.
