A Attractive, Fuel Efficient Affluent car by juljani on 08/28/2009. Trim: 2001 Volvo S40 Sedan, Owned less than 1 year.

Pros: Subtle attractive looks, Quick, Great gas milage for the power. Treated me well so far ive had it for about 6 months
Cons: Maintenence is more expensive then "average" american/Japanese type cars of similiar size/year
Overall review: Great car for Young singles, or Couple Fast and Fuel effiecient with a affluent euro style that brings it all together for a all around good car,, "Mantenence can be abit pricey"

Speed Demon by Speed Demon from Orange County on 11/25/2009. Trim: 2001 Volvo S40 Sedan, Owned 8 years.
1
Pros: Handles well in all types of weather
Cons: The left side headlight is hard to replace because of the interior design.
Overall review: Great vechicle. I keep up with the regular scheduled maintenance and my car just keeps on performing well as it did back when I first got it in 2001. It now has 89,000 miles and still going strong and don't be fooled by the size either. The trunk is large enough where you can fit a load of groceries comfortably. If I get another car it well probably be another volvo.

My Great Little Car by anna soper okla on 11/30/2008. Trim: 2001 Volvo S40 Sedan, Owned less than 1 year.

Pros: The handling of this car is great. I went from a Dodge Stratus to this car. Dodge just lost my attention. I am short and my husband is over 6 ft tall. He has less trouble getting into this car. I am getting around 39.8 mpg. I will keep this car for several years.
Cons: This car is blown all over the high way during a high wind.
Overall review: I love my S40 when I wear it out I will do my best to find another one. It has great comfort to travel in. I am still learning about this car. The cup holder is totally crazy but I can live with that.

I'm Keeping This One For a Long Time by Kurlee, SC on 05/29/2008. Trim: 2001 Volvo S40 Sedan, Owned 7 years.

Pros: I've had Vilma (Swedish name meaning "Protector") for almost 7 years (bought it new). It has a quiet elegance to it, instead of the "look at all my shiny parts!" style you see in some luxury cars. The turbo engine gives it amazing pick up when getting on the highways, and yet it has really good gas mileage. I've always put 87-octane gas (salesman recommendation), and I have not had any problems with it at all.
Cons: Since I'm short, I'm quite comfortable in it, but it might not be so comfortable for a tall person sitting in the back seat. Only once did the sensors go a little wacky, but the mechanic at the dealership was honest enough to tell me it was because a metal flashlight had fallen under the seats and set them off. I only had to pay for the diagnostics. I have not had a problem since.
Overall review: Vilma is the most reliable car I've ever had, and I hope to keep her for very long time!

Afternoon Delight... by KngofApathy on 03/12/2008. Trim: 2001 Volvo S40 Sedan, Owned 3 years.

Pros: I've owned it for 3 years now and maybe I lucked out, but my S40 is like the greatest car ever. The performance and handling are great, the ride is comfortable, the styling is simple yet refined, and everything works the way it is supposed to. Not only that but, being as accident-prone in life as I am, I have peace of mind knowing that everything about this car is designed with safety in mind. It also gets great highway mileage.
Cons: Okay, so the cupholder is bizarre. That and I've had a few suspension issues, but then again, I live in Illinois, where if you stare at a road hard enough, it crumbles. Other than that, I've never had a single mechanical problem with the car. Just routine maintenance. It doesn't hurt to have a good European mechanic on your side though; I haven't exactly been overwhelmed with the dealers in my area.
Overall review: I couldn't think of a more perfect car for city life. It's got the low-pressure turbo that makes the 4-cyl. feel like a 6; it's small enough to fit into almost any parking space. No it may not be a 3-series, but dollar for dollar it's been a steal. I always look forward to getting in my car after long day.
