Pulls a lot but can't break what it pulls. by Steve in Louisville on 10/02/2010. Trim: 2001 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 2WD, Owned 9 years.
Pros: Payload and towing. It has power to tow about anything. Unfortunately, it can't break as much as it pulls.
Cons: Transmission, air conditioning, gas mileage stinks.
Overall review: An OK truck for the price. Fairly reliable,

Buy a Frontier or Tacoma if you want your moneys worth by Luke on 02/04/2009. Trim: 2001 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 2WD, Owned 8 years.
Pros: The fact that it is a entry level truck that will hold the whole family.
Cons: Do you like spending money? Well buy this model and you'll have no problems doing that. Rear end at 50k miles, constant electrical problems, corrosion starting on fenders at 70k miles. Very poor performance out of V6 motor. Not reccomended for towing or fuel mileage. Problems with power window regulators, cam position sensors, radio, cluster, heating and air conditioning. Remember to change both wheel cylinders when you hear the squaling noise. You'll be doing them every year or so at approximatly $200 a pop. Horrible vehicle but what do you expect from a defunct poor quality producing company.
Overall review: Dont buy one you'll regret it if you do. Have a look at the dodge dakota forums on the internet and you'll see why.

WORST PIECE OF JUNK I HAVE EVER OWNED by WINDICITY on 02/13/2006. Trim: 2001 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 2WD, Owned 6 years.
Pros: IT HAS A SOFT RIDE.. AND THE FLEXABILITY OF THE 4 DOORS.
Cons: TOO MANY.. 1) A/C HEATING BLOWER RESITOR KEEPS ON BURNING.. THATS 3 TIMES ALREADY. 2)TRANSMISION ... LOSS OF POWER AND SEEMS TO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE OVERDRIVE. 3)BALL JOINT PROBLEMS FROM DAY ONE.. DODGE INSISTED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. ONCE THE WARANT EXPIRED THEN THEY FOUND A WHOLE BUNCH OF STUFF THAT NEEDED REPAIRS. 4)IGNITION KEY GOT STUCK.. HAD TO REPLACE KEY MECHANISM 5) ENGINE STALLS HALF THE TIME.. 6) SOMETIMES THE TRUCK SEEMS TO BE WORKING JUST FINE.. THEN IT STALLS AGAIN. NO PROBLEM SAID DODGE. ITS A GAS GUZZLER V6.. 3.9
Overall review: BIG FAT "0" DON'T BUT THIS... SAVE YOUR MONEY AND BUY A TOYOTA.

The Ulimate Lemon by Dvae - Pasco, WA on 11/10/2005. Trim: 2001 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 2WD, Owned 4 years.
Pros: Roomy, alot of power, 23.6MPG with the 4.7 in front of 5-speed and 3.55 gearing.
Cons: Front wheel bearing failure at 30K, fuel pump failure at 45K, transmission failure at 50k (manual at that), power steering pump failure at 60K. Ball joints are a safety recall but Chrysler will not replace them if over 100K on them and 2WD, they'll do so indefinitely if you bought their 4WD.
Overall review: If Chrysler had put some Lee Iacoca quality into this rather than bean-counter mentality of low grade Mexican manufacturing, I'd buy another. After the ball joint recall I'll never buy another Chrysler product. Chrysler does not back their products, and I understand why.

GREAT MACHINE, WISH THE BODY STYLE HAD NOT CHANGED. by GEORGE THE SERVICE MANGLER, BARSTOW CALIFORNIA on 09/24/2008. Trim: 2001 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 4WD, Owned 5 years.
Pros: FOR A 4 WHEEL DRIVE V8, TIS TRUCK GETS BETWEEN 17 AND 22.5 MPG, THE REAR SEATS ARE MORE COMFORTABLE THAN A 1500 RAM QUAD CAB. I HAVE 90K ON THIS TRUCK WITH VERY FEW PROBLEMS AND NO MAJOR ISSUES. THE PREVIOUS DAKOTA I HAD I SOLD WITH 166K MILES ON IT AND IT IS STILL GOING, GREAT TRUCKS.
Cons: REAR AXLE DOES SHIFT AROUND ON SMALL BUMPS.
Overall review: THIS HAS BEEN A GREAT VEHICLE FOR THE PAST 5 YEARS.
