Pulls a lot but can't break what it pulls. by Steve in Louisville on 10/02/2010. Trim: 2001 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 2WD, Owned 9 years.

Pros: Payload and towing. It has power to tow about anything. Unfortunately, it can't break as much as it pulls.
Cons: Transmission, air conditioning, gas mileage stinks.
Overall review: An OK truck for the price. Fairly reliable,

Buy a Frontier or Tacoma if you want your moneys worth by Luke on 02/04/2009. Trim: 2001 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 2WD, Owned 8 years.
2
Pros: The fact that it is a entry level truck that will hold the whole family.
Cons: Do you like spending money? Well buy this model and you'll have no problems doing that. Rear end at 50k miles, constant electrical problems, corrosion starting on fenders at 70k miles. Very poor performance out of V6 motor. Not reccomended for towing or fuel mileage. Problems with power window regulators, cam position sensors, radio, cluster, heating and air conditioning. Remember to change both wheel cylinders when you hear the squaling noise. You'll be doing them every year or so at approximatly $200 a pop. Horrible vehicle but what do you expect from a defunct poor quality producing company.
Overall review: Dont buy one you'll regret it if you do. Have a look at the dodge dakota forums on the internet and you'll see why.

GREAT MACHINE, WISH THE BODY STYLE HAD NOT CHANGED. by GEORGE THE SERVICE MANGLER, BARSTOW CALIFORNIA on 09/24/2008. Trim: 2001 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 4WD, Owned 5 years.

Pros: FOR A 4 WHEEL DRIVE V8, TIS TRUCK GETS BETWEEN 17 AND 22.5 MPG, THE REAR SEATS ARE MORE COMFORTABLE THAN A 1500 RAM QUAD CAB. I HAVE 90K ON THIS TRUCK WITH VERY FEW PROBLEMS AND NO MAJOR ISSUES. THE PREVIOUS DAKOTA I HAD I SOLD WITH 166K MILES ON IT AND IT IS STILL GOING, GREAT TRUCKS.
Cons: REAR AXLE DOES SHIFT AROUND ON SMALL BUMPS.
Overall review: THIS HAS BEEN A GREAT VEHICLE FOR THE PAST 5 YEARS.

After 7 years, I still love my truck! by Shels in Colorado on 07/08/2008. Trim: 2001 Dodge Dakota Club Cab 4WD, Owned 7 years.
1
Pros: Very dependable, comfortable, quiet. Goes anywhere without a problem. The only time it's ever been stuck was during Denver's 100 year snow storm. We had 36 inches of snow (which wasn't a problem for the Dodge), but a snow plow truck came by and plowed her in. Once I dug her out, she was one of the only vehicles out on the road for two days.
Cons: Gas mileage ranges from 14-17 mpg. The "chrome" finish on some of the original trim bubbled up or peeled off. Rides a little rough at 75+mph.
Overall review: This is my third truck and the first one I don't plan to sell or trade in.

Great Truck by Truck lover from Florida on 02/26/2008. Trim: 2001 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 2WD, Owned 7 years.
1
Pros: everything,i love my truck. Handles great, comfortable on long trips. It's dependable and of course beautiful.
Cons: I've had sensor problems but came to find out they were caused by leaking freeze plugs. the computer didn't code so it took a long time to diagnosis and fix the problem. No other major problems the entire time I have owned it.
Overall review: This has just been a great truck for me. I am going on 7 years of ownership and in relation to family and friends vehicles it has been pretty much trouble free. It is still a great looking truck it is often mistaken for a much newer model. For a small v-8 it does well on gas milage. I have pulled as much as 19-20 mpg on trips. My plans are to keep this truck as long as possible. If the previous 7 years are any indication I will probably own and drive it another 7+.
