Not bad, Not good by An MSN Autos Consumer on 04/16/2011. Trim: 2001 Chevrolet Impala LS, Owned 6 years.
2
Pros: I like the style of the body and it can be reliable at times
Cons: rotors warp fast, had ignition control module replaced, rack and pinion at 80k, cost $900, catalytic converter 2 times, both oxygen sensors, these cars have lots of exhaust and electrical issues, the turn signals work when they want, now the transmission is shifting weird, after the car warms up you will feel a little jerk if you hit the gas, not really hard but to the point where you can feel it, but when it goes on the highway its fine. took it to AAMCO, said it was nothing but dont believe that. Had a tranny flush done, did not solve the problem.
Overall review: As far as reliability, it is a good car but there are lots of electrical and exhaust issues with this model. I would definitley not buy another impala after this.

Impala Dissappointment by An MSN Autos Consumer on 07/23/2003. Trim: 2001 Chevrolet Impala LS, Owned 2 years.
2
Pros: At first I liked the appearance ride and handling.
Cons: The transaxle failed and had to be replaced at 31000 miles. The car never seemed to be ok after the transaxle was replaced and we traded the car.
Overall review: Unreliable vehicle. The experience I had with this car and the people at GM customer service and the GM dealer was absolutely unsatisfactory.

Impala 9c1 (Police Package) by 9c1 Driver, Dayton OH on 07/26/2002. Trim: 2001 Chevrolet Impala Base, Owned less than 1 year.
2
Pros: It has a much larger interior and trunk than my 1996 Caprice even though it is a smaller car. I like the layout of the interior, and the design of the body. The car responds very well, and does excellent on gas millage.
Cons: I prefer a rear wheel drive vehicle, and I miss the LT1 in my caprice (I had a 96 9c1 (police pakage) which had a 300HP 350 V-8. The 3800 Series II is an excellent motor, but does not put out as much power as it is capable, but this is common for GM, they always under power their motors. My LT1 was capable of 350HP with little modification.
Overall review: I think the 2001 Impala 9c1 is a great vehicle, but GM needs to put another 25-35 HP out of the 3800 without adding the optional supercharger (this item is found on the Pontiac GTP). For starts put dual exaust on the LS and 9c1 models. The Monte Carlo SS has the same motor and has dual exaust. Lose the 16" wheels and go back to the 17" rims and tires (more sporty appearance the 96 Impala SS used 17"). Redisgn the air filter box, that is the most difficult air filter to change. A mechanic want $30 to change it, because it's a pain. I do recommend the car to it has an excellent design all around, except the powertrain (which is where GM usually falls short).
