subaru legacy, easy to drive and reliable by Archaeobarb on 07/03/2013. Trim: 2001 Subaru Legacy Wagon L, Owned 2 years.
Pros: great gas mileage, very good handling in snow and poor weather
Cons: leg room is cramped, as I am 5'10"
Overall review: almost like having a truck, you can fold the back seats down and haul an amazing amount of cargo. reliable and good on gas.

get the Out Back by honest review from calgary canada on 08/21/2003. Trim: 2001 Subaru Legacy Wagon L, Owned 2 years.
Pros: awd!!! smooth. Did I forget to mention TRACTION!! When the weather is bad my car can out sprint and corner ANY of those archaic 2wd cars. Have driven through 2ft + snow to get to the ski hill. Only 4 by 4 trucks could get through!
Cons: subaru dealerships are terrible. Rear interrior is cheap cardboard. Paint seems to chip easy. Factory Tires wear out quick. DONT drive through 3 ft of snow car will high center and get stuck HA HA. Im 6'1" can not stretch legs out fully wiht seat back all the way. Head room is good.
Overall review: dependable safe comfortable awesome traction. However wish I did not cheap out and bought the outback (much better clearance and stiffer suspension) My car has noticeable body roll on tarmac with the soft suspension ( great for grandma not for me). This is a 4 cylinder car. Dont be an idiot and buy the automatic and then complain about power problems. Car has adequate power in 4th up long mountain passes with 4 adult males in the car. I have 50.000 miles on my car so far no mech/elect. problems.

Perfect instead of an SUV... by Sold-on-Subies from Omaha, NE on 06/28/2003. Trim: 2001 Subaru Legacy Wagon L, Owned 2 years.
Pros: Love the handling, in all weather. Love the interior space (fits me well at least: 5'6"), exterior look, good mileage. Smooth ride in town and on the highway. NO problems so far, and the up-coming 30,000 mi. check is looming.
Cons: Acceleration is fine, not great. However, mine is not a 6-cylinder.
Overall review: Love my Legacy wagon (can you tell from my prior comments?!) - fits my bike in the back if needed, instead of a bike rack. Hauls my "stuff" and hides it under the cover. Converts easily if seats need to be put down. It's snappy-lookin' and easy to drive, park, whatever.

Fine AWD Wagon by Jimbosc on 01/31/2003. Trim: 2001 Subaru Legacy Wagon GT, Owned 2 years.
Pros: Alot. Drives great - very sporty handling on the GT. AWD system is awesome. I have the manual tranny and with the 50-50 torque split you will blow by about any car or truck on the road in bad weather. Paint has held up very well - the car has only had one minor issue for the dealer to fix after 2 years. Quite interior on the highway and all the toys work like they should (cruise, a/c, etc.)
Cons: The car is fairly narrow, so not alot of sholder or elbow room. Engine needs another 40 horses - or the option to get the turbo motor out of the WRX (would be a better fit than the H6 in the Outback). Only trouble was some loose door weather seal which the dealer quickly corrected. Stereo is pretty weak with small buttons. Fuel milage is about 19 city 25 highway - a little worse that expected.
Overall review: I would definately recommend this car. Subaru is owned by a heavy industrial manufacturer - and this car is a tank. When in doubt they added another beam of steel to stiffen the car more. There are no rattles or noises after 2 years of normal driving. You pay a penalty at the pump but when it comes to the major mechanicals Subaru has it right. The interior is good - not Toyota quality, but close to the rest. If you need room for 4 people and AWD this is the car to get. A Passat will set you back another 5 g's or more - get the Subie!
