Pass on the Passat Wagon!!!!!! by Unsatisfied in the Bay Area on 06/11/2004. Trim: 2001 Volkswagen Passat Wagon GLS V6, Owned 3 years.
Pros: At first we loved this sporty wagon, but...that can't make up for the pain it has been in terms of maintenance...a lemon all the way.
Cons: We had what we thought would be minor repairs (needing more transmission fluid cost us over $400 because it's a
Overall review: We leased this car and are giving it back early. We can't wait to get rid of this lemon. We should have bought the minivan to begin with, and have now, and are already 100% happier. Also two of our friends that have Passat Wagons are also turning them in early because of similar issues...so it can't just be our bad luck...

BEST TURBO WAGON by OBowles from Twin Falls, Idaho on 11/26/2002. Trim: 2001 Volkswagen Passat Wagon GLS, Owned 1 year.
Pros: Great quality, reliability, comfort, and styling. Very versatile, and economical.
Cons: (No data provided)
Overall review: Great wagon with all the sport of a sedan and then some. This wagon leaves all the wanna-be VW imitations in the dust (Subaru, etc.)

SUV Replacement by Drew from Germany and then Florida on 04/14/2002. Trim: 2001 Volkswagen Passat Wagon GLS, Owned 1 year.
Pros: What's not to like about this car? The 4-cylinder turbo has excellent pickup and handles itself well at high speeds. As others have indicated, it handles well on the autobahn in Germany. I usually hovered at around 100 mph without the white knuckes. This car also has excellent cargo space. It has more cargo room than a V70 and costs 10K less.
Cons: A typical European car, the cup holders leave much to be desired. Also, the glove compartment, while air conditioned, is a bit too small to be functional.
Overall review: I gush about my Passat at every opportunity. It's comfortable when traveling, is efficient around town (4 cyl), and is versatile cargo-wise. If you need utility but want to succumb to a bloated SUV give this car a look.

Close but no cigar by A CarPoint Consumer on 03/08/2001. Trim: 2001 Volkswagen Passat Wagon GLX, Owned less than 1 year.
Pros: nice quality finish, solid feeling, good handling, stylish
Cons: seating uncomfortable, tall drivers must choose between being able to reach steering wheel comfortably or being able to extend legs while driving, steering wheel obscures dash, gas pedal too close to brake pedal, break pedal too high, clutch pedal travel excessive, poor ergonomics
Overall review: Excellent vehicle if you can get comfortable driving it
