Pros:
Reliability and ease of maintenance
Cons:
Engine could have more power...use the 3.0 engine
Overall review:
After over 118,000 the Subie is still going strong. Keep up w/oil and filter changes and it's just fine.

MY Car
by Carolyn from Enid on 06/30/2009.
Trim: 2001 Subaru Legacy GT Limited, Owned 6 years.
Useful?
Pros:
I like the fact that my legacy is the only one like it around this area. It's stylish and gets lots of compliments.
Cons:
My legacy has only 90,000 miles on it and is in need of a new transmission. I've taken good care of it and there should be no need for this kind of expence.
Overall review:
My car has been fairly trouble free. Only an 02 sensor and now the transmission.

Fantasic Car

Trim: 2001 Subaru Legacy GT, Owned 2 years.

Pros:
This is a great all season car. The AWD is awesome in the snow. Its fun when you want it to be and safe when you need it to be. Northern Minnesota/North Dakota winters can be pretty bad. In previous cars I would get stuck a few times a year. I've had this car for about 2 1/2 years and haven't found a way to get stuck in the snow or mud yet. Pretty good MPG at about 26-27 highway. Now i have about 145,000 miles and it is running great.
Cons:
Kind of loud on the highway. Could be a bit faster, but plenty for the daily driver. Needed a new clutch and flywheel at 111,000 which is understandable, pretty expensive though. Doing work on the car is pretty difficult. The engine compartment is pretty compact and difficult to reach things. Even the spark plugs need to be done by a mechanic because if how tightly packed everything is. The catalytic converter is going out now at about 145,000 and needs to be replaced. all of these problems are normal at high miles so I'm not to worried about it. Only bad thing is everything you have to fix is pretty expensive.
Overall review:
For how much a drive (about 50,000 miles per year) I have had very few problems with this car. Over all, this car is fantastic. You get the capability of the 4x4 on a truck and the gas millage of a car. So far nothing, major has happen. The AWD is awesome and a very nice in winter. 5 speed manual makes it fun to drive. 145,000 miles and still running great. I don't think i will ever buy anything but a Subaru again. Safe, reliable, and fun. Nothing can beat it.

Best car I have owned
by Dr. Bob on 08/04/2006.
Trim: 2001 Subaru Legacy GT Limited, Owned 5 years.
Useful?
Pros:
Reliability, power, finish
Cons:
Engine should be 3.0 type
Overall review:
Excellent value for the money. I have owned this Subie since 2001 and have no major mechanical problems (66K so far). Changed oil, filters, and rotated tires each 3K interval. Original tires were noisy, so I changed to new Firestones and have no problems with road noise since.

Problem with tires and clutch
by Chas for Calgary Alberta on 10/09/2004.
Trim: 2001 Subaru Legacy L, Owned 4 years.
Useful?
Pros:
Good traction in snow and ice. Handles well but a little too much roll. Brakes good. gas milage good
Cons:
Problems with chatter on thrust bearing for clutch at 51k, 62k Warranty repair and 85k Miles. Wheel alignment problems after 85K miles. It seems that the frame and suspension are weakening.
Dealer says it is normal
Overall review:
Good wagon under 50k miles. frame and suspension needs to be stronger.
