Keeps me Smiling ! by gut2ski on 01/23/2012. Trim: 2000 Toyota MR2 Spyder, Owned 6 years.
Pros: looks great, unique only 24,000 made for the US, inexpensive to purchase used, inexpensive to operate / insure, great gas mileage (31.5 mpg and I drive it the way it's meant to be driven), interior layout is basic and works well, top is manual and easy up / down, generally enough interior room as long as you don't mind being cozy with your passenger, excellent commuter car, 1st reliable sports car I've owned (previous 2 X Fiat and 1 X Alfa Romeo) - I drive it top down, year round in Colorado.......windows up, heater on, stereo on, 15 degrees, ball cap and gloves ....NO PROBLEM !
Cons: seats are well shaped but not comfortable for long trips, with 66,000 miles on the car the seats are breaking down and need to be replaced, so not very durable - - authentic toyota seats (parts) are very expensive, so I have gone with after market -- very little storage, so I bought an after market trunk rack - - quality of interior dash and door panels could be better.....that being said plastic is still only plastic -
Overall review: know what you're purchasing - it's a fun and basically impractical car, as an only vehicle - don't expect Porsche quality, it's not a Porsche and is only a fraction of the cost - don't expect blinding speed, that's not what this car is about - it's a quick and agile little car that is excellent for your daily commute, around town and an occasional weekend getaway - great 2nd car - works well in conjunction with an SUV as your other car - I' m glad it's not a crime to have this much fun going to and from work -

Little Car by Ploughboy_dr on 07/28/2011. Trim: 2000 Toyota MR2 Spyder, Owned more than 10 years.
Pros: Very snappy in trafific when you learn where the power curve is. Excellent power to weight ration give some of the Porsches fits.
Cons: Defiintely needs a 6 speed to get the tach down at highway speeds. this would help with the noise problem and give better highway milage.
Overall review: After 6 years and vaious friends and a wife and daughter, I've learned you either love this car or hate it. There is no in between. I love it!!!!!!!!!

A Driver's Car with a Curse. by ME on 07/03/2009. Trim: 2000 Toyota MR2 Spyder, Owned 9 years.
Pros: This car carves up the corners with ease. It has the ability to drive around corners and curves without loosing control at speed.
Cons: The 1zz-fe engine that came with the car is a horrible choice of engine. The engines in 2000- 2003 models have a tendency to have catastrophic engine failure due to oil starvation. It is thought that the catalytic converter built into the exhaust header deteriorates and get sucked back into the engine destroying the piston rings and cylinder walls.
Overall review: It may be a fun car to drive but the fun will NOT last long.

"The Red Spyder" by An MSN Autos Consumer on 01/31/2009. Trim: 2000 Toyota MR2 Spyder, Owned 2 years.
Pros: Appearance, style and the way it handles. We always admired the MR2. We saw this car at the dealership when having our Highlander serviced. Bought in the spot and drove it home.
Overall review: I am 76 and my wife of 55 years of marriage,is trying to catch up with me. Somewhat difficult for us to get in and out. A little arthritis. Once in,we scoot around like a couple of kids. We have fun!
