The offroad porsche.

Trim: 2000 AM General Hummer Wagon, Owned 3 years.

Pros:
I love it! I've been all over the west with it, Arizona and Northern California, had no problems during trips other then stuff I inflicted :) Handling is superb, much better then my SUV. Highly recommended, and you can get a brand new 2002 or 2003 model for about 60-70k if you shop around. Check out LynchHummer.com and Humvee.net! Great community of supporting enthusiasts with diverse interests. I run biodiesel 100% of the time - see pacfuel.com and biodiesel.org
Cons:
Not for the timid. Noisy and Slow, top recommended cruising speed is 65 - I try to stay under 70. AC poor, unusable in some circumstances due to heat buildup. Interior is very rough, and the hummer WILL bite you pretty badly if you're not careful. Maintenance and repairs are extremely expensive, $1200 for a 12,000 mile tuneup.
Overall review:
Get it if you can. Be aware that it is NOT a daily driver, you don't want to commute in this car. Insurance is much cheaper if you register as a recreation/occasional use vehicle but you have to provide you mileage each year. Great fun for offroading, but definitely get the feeling of "roughing it" - it's not a lexus!

Trim: 2000 AM General Hummer Hard Top 4-Door, Owned 2 years.

Pros:
Good lookin' and expensive, girls love it
Cons:
The GM Parts bin interior, the price you pay doesn't buy the quality and luxury one would expect, constantly having little problems par for GM I guess.
Overall review:
A fun vehicle if you can afford the maintenance and don't mind not getting your money's worth.

Freakin' Civilian Tank

Trim: 2000 AM General Hummer Slant Back, Owned less than 1 year.
1
Pros:
It's extremely tough and powerful, I feel extremely safe in this car, even in Boston traffic. It's a status symbol too, it catches the eye of everyone you pass.
Cons:
The acceleration is dismal, the styling is a bit boxy, cabin noise.
Overall review:
I love the truck, it's suprisingly maneuverable for it's size, acceleration is my only problem. I later went into the shop and further insulated the cabin, so noise wasnt an enormous problem.

Hummers are bummers
by Rich from Michigan on 08/13/2004.
Trim: 2000 AM General Hummer Hard Top 4-Door, Owned 5 years.
Useful?
Pros:
When it was running it was a very capable off-road vehicle.
Cons:
I owned the Hummer for two years, durring that period it was in for repairs for four months. The vehicle is way under powered, noisy both inside and out. It is very uncomfortable to ride in and very undependable. You need to have a military budget with a motorcade of spare parts following if you plan on owning one.
Overall review:
Do not even think about buying one. Take your $100,000.00 and burn it, it will be a lot less frustrating. The customer service people do not even know what the words mean.
