GREAT AUTO FOR THE MONEY.........................VERY RELIABLE AUTOMOBILE by JO on 12/08/2013. Owned 3 years.
Pros: I bought it used at a great price 3 years ago and it has been a reliable car. No major problems except the check engine light now comes on. I priced used and new cars and I am trying to keep this car as long as possible. Going to get a complete maintenance on it the next two months. I got a dynamite car for the money. It is paid for. kept on the maintenance tune ups, oil change. i AGREE THIS IS A KEEPER AUTOMOBILE. GREAT JOB MOAZDA......................................
Cons: For the price and reliability no complaints from me. The check engine light comes on and needs repair it is an lx 1.6L
Overall review: I HOPE TO HAVE THIS AUTO FOR A LONG TIME. ONLY DRIVE WHEN NEEDED. WANT IT TO BE MY LAST AUTO. GREAT PRICE FOR THE MONEY

Excellent value: Quality car worth the money. by An MSN Autos Consumer on 01/24/2009. Trim: 2000 Mazda Protege ES, Owned 4 years.
Pros: Price, quality and reliability, clean interior, good driving visibility, power windows and mirrors, nice sunroof, sufficient trunk, good handling. Sufficient power for needed acceleration. Good paint. Sunroof works well and does not leak. Nice, clean gages. Accurate fuel indicator and car health (check engine) monitor system. I like the way it looks, straight lines, sporty.
Cons: Gas mileage could be better for 1.6L manual. Somewhat noisy on the highway, tires you out on long trips. Suspension is a bit bumpy; it is more of sports suspension setup.
Overall review: This is good car for local commuting. Pretty good mileage. Reliable. Clean. Comfortable. Inexpensive and good retail value.

Still Has It's Zoom-Zoom-Zoom by Rose from Maryland on 03/16/2005. Trim: 2000 Mazda Protege ES, Owned 6 years.
Pros: Small yet spacious car. Good on gas and has some "zoom-zoom-zoom" about it. Very reliable. Plus, it is not listed on the "Top Stolen Vehicles" list (like the Civic is).
Cons: The transmission went out the first 6 months. Afterwards, it was fine.
Overall review: Great car for young single people (like myself) or a young starting family.

epitomises the zoom zoom zoom philosophy by Rawbean from KL on 03/03/2005. Trim: 2000 Mazda Protege ES, Owned 5 years.
Pros: Sporty looks and spacious interior. Very supportive seats and handles like on rails for a car in this segment.
Cons: Unfortunate to have experienced mass airflow sensor and cam sensor problems. These 2 problems occurred one after another but was fixed under warranty. If not for these 2 problems, my protege would be "perfect". The car also seems to eat tires (205, 45, 16s)but may be a function of its chuckability nature or soft compound of the Yokohama ES100.
Overall review: The protege performs extremely well in all areas except for the limited boot space in the hatch (5 door variant) or "sportwagon" known in some markets.
