Born from Jets and like Jets it needs constant care
by HawaiiChief in Monterey, CA on 12/28/2006.
Trim: 2000 Saab 9-5 Aero, Owned 3 years.

Pros:
The best car I have ever driven - when it's working!
Great acceleration, speed, nice interior, and a sharp looking vehicle.
Everyone who had a chance to drive my Saab considered getting one for themselves.
Cons:
ALWAYS IN THE SHOP!
Stalled multiple times for different reasons - sensor, transmission, direct ignition cassette. On one occasion a transmission part had to be ordered from Sweden because there was none in the U.S. Took five days to arrive. The car should be serviced by a dealer or a trustworthy and experienced Saab mechanic, even for oil changes. Anyone else might cause additional problems.
Overall review:
I had a love-hate relationship with this car. When something went wrong with it, it was a major thing and had to go into the shop to be fixed and the repairs were expensive. When the car was running it was a thing of beauty to drive. I'll buy another Saab when their reliability improves.

Pros:
Get in this car and drive it, there is no justice in words to describe how a 4-banger puts a heck-of-a-lot of so called V8's to shame.
It's ridiculous.
Cons:
...people dont want to see it as a status symbol, they have not realized the transformation saab has undergone, it is no longer "quirky" but now unique. Just look at the car for crying out loud, it's very classy and it has a feeling of "what are you looking at?" to it at the same time, I actually like the fact that it is so underestimated.
Overall review:
I can't believe the guy who wrote that his saab is boring but yet he feels sorry for it at the same time, like his ex wife. You sir are indeed a very, very troubled individual and should not even be driving this vehicle, buy a ford, it will keep you entertained with all the break downs.

Useful?
Pros:
Fun to drive, good MPG, fits the kids, comfortable seats/ergonomics, great acoustics from motor and factory stereo.
Cons:
Shop time, DO NOT TAKE IT TO YOUR LOCAL MECHANIC!!!! SAAB Techs or specialists only. Trusted a local mechanic several times, each time they were confused mid job. Last time it came out of the shop worse than when it when in. Find a good trustworthy tech.
Overall review:
Love everything but the shop time.

Pros:
very fast and handling is superb. wet traction is deminished cause of torque but very fun to drive. acceleration is much improved when you press the sport mode button on automatic cars
Cons:
starting problems with the ignition somtimes on short trip when you turn car off and try to restart the engine it somtimes does not want to start. let rest for 10 mins and it will start.part of the speedo(mph) won't light up; simular to night panel operation. rattle coming from a/c pulley, low coolant levels persist. saab personal at dealership service and parts department are snobs and could care-less about the consumer
Overall review:
great car but many electrical problems occur and nothing is cheap to fix and i've yet to fix any of the above problems

You can run (it) but you can't hide (from repairs)

Pros:
Wonderful car to drive. Acceleration is decent, better with a cat-back exhaust. Mileage is terrific. Love to surprise other drivers with the quickness (manual tranny is the only way to go!)
Cons:
Best of three saabs I have owned, but like their predecessors, can't seem to keep it out of the shop. Don't know if chipping is a good way to go, since the car seems to have enouth problems without more HP and torque. Use to go thru headlamp bulbs until I disconnected the daytime running light fuse. Last problem was a torque fracture of the right front axle. Can't understand that one. Also went through the "not-starting" bit, crankshaft sensor didn't work. took the mechanics a while to solve that one.
Overall review:
I have had the car for over 4 years and 60k. As much as I enjoy it, if I have one more "major" problem, its history. there are just too many good cars (Japanese?!?!?) out there to put up with all the problems. And its not like the 9-5 is a classic. Just a quirky, fun to drive auto that spices up driving!
