Walked away from rollover accident by CJ in Oklahoma on 03/17/2009. Trim: 2000 Mercedes-Benz SLK230 Kompressor, Owned 2 years.
Pros: I bought this car used and really enjoyed it.The car was in excellent condition overall and low mileage when purchased. Handled great, hugged road. Three days ago my 20 yr old daughter borrowed my car and while taking action to avoid another car hitting her, was forced off the interstate going 70 miles an hr (top was up). She hit dirt and gravel, lost control and rolled the car 2-3 times (haven't gotten the HP report yet)...but she ended up upside down, had hit a large light pole and knocked that over. She walked away with seatbelt bruises and aching muscles. The car was totaled but not hardly a scratch on my daughter. I cannot say enough about the quality of this car in a crash.
Cons: My SLK odometer plasma screen was broke...the miles were tracked but it was difficult and sometimes impossible to read. Also, because the top was down a bunch, the interior had some areas of peeling on the hard surfaces.
Overall review: Would buy again. However, now my husband wants an S class. We also own a 1998 C280 with 205K miles (have owned for 10 yrs)...still going strong. Really believe these cars are safer.

Great Little Sports Car with Lots of Umph & Fun That Will Last a Decade! by Lucky Gal in Sugar Land on 12/30/2008. Trim: 2000 Mercedes-Benz SLK230 Kompressor, Owned 9 years.
Pros: I've had this car for almost 10 years and it's certainly lasted very well and overall is a great car. Love how easy/fast it is to put the top down, love the acceleration, drives easily & quiet, great turning radius. Perfect for a short gal like me. Great stereo system, ac/heater work great, love the heated seats, pretty large trunk area (with top up) for a small car. Classic looks - 2000 model and it looks very new still.
Cons: The 6-CD changer is in the trunk - awkward to change CDs. Paint seems to chip outside a lot and the inside wears somewhat easily in the center console area. Tires can get worn too fast. Would be pretty smalll for anyone over 6ft or with a large frame.
Overall review: Overall, a great little sports car that willl give you many years of fun & safe driving! Had a few problems, but for a 10 year period, I'd say things are pretty good and the car still looks and drives great! I'll be sad when the day comes to trade it in for something practical.

Quick, sporty, and a joy to drive. by David, Decatur, AL on 02/17/2007. Trim: 2000 Mercedes-Benz SLK230 Kompressor, Owned 7 years.
Pros: Styling of the copper designo edition and the two-tone leather interior is beautiful. We still get positive, unsolicited, comments every week. Even sales reps at auto dealerships comment on it, and it is 7 years old! It is quick, handles great, and is fun to drive. Feels like a "safe hardtop" with the top up. Solid Mercedes feel when driving. The original battery lasted 6 1/2 years. Still have the original exhaust system.
Cons: Poor quality of plastic parts in the interior. The skin is coming off the black console, the cup holder is poorly designed and in a terrible location, sun shades do not swivel to the side, not the best quality carpeting, exterior paint is fragile. Had to replace A/C condenser after 55,000 miles, for $1,450. When you have a 2 seater sports car you need another, larger, car for family and long vacation use. When the top is down the trunk will not hold a set of golf clubs, or many groceries.
Overall review: A great little car. My wife and I still love it after owning it 7 years and driving it over 70,000 miles. Wish there was more consistency in Mercedes dealership service quality. I have experienced both excellent and mediocre service. Fortunately the original dealer in Naperville, Illinois still helps out when needed, even though we moved out of state 5 years ago. Looked at the TT, Z3 and Boxster before purchasing the SLK. It was by far the best car and value for us. The trunk is larger (when the top is up), the interior is larger and much more comfortable, the hard top is safer and better suited to cold winters than are cloth tops, and there is a more extensive dealer network.
