Most economical car Ever! by Echo lover from Idaho on 09/10/2012. Trim: 2000 Toyota ECHO 2-Door, Owned more than 10 years.
Pros: Nearly Everything! Perfect for a smaller person. Easy to handle. Great gas mileage! Literally NO repairs except one set of brakes in 12 yrs. Replaced tires, oil changes Tuneups. That is all!
Cons: Fit of windows allows foggy Icy windows inside & out. Plastic parts on seat adjustments broke off early & back seat where the seats are able to drop forward broke & is unable to open!
Overall review: LOVE LOVE LOVE My 2000 Echo !!!! Would buy another one if they still made them!

Family Hauler by cruising the emerald skyline on 11/27/2009. Trim: 2000 Toyota ECHO 4-Door, Owned 9 years.
Pros: 163K miles and still going strong. Everything still works and nothing has fallen off yet. I get average of 34mpg combined and 40mpg on HWY. No major problems, just regular maintenance (by the way, get a repair manual & some cheap tools and do them yourself. This car is easy to work on). I've taken this car in 120 degrees Mexican trips and -10 degrees Northern Canadian trips and she has licked them all. I installed a tow hitch and can carry two bicycles with it. This car will hold a stroller, medium suit case, medium cooler and bicycle trailer in the trunk; my wife, daughter and I along with my daughter's toys, diapers, laptop, small cooler and food in the cabin plus the bikes on the back.
Cons: Lots of road noise, but I just turn up the music. Sidewinds through high deserts really shake this car. Weak going up long mountain highways, just stay right and cut out to pass semi's when it's clear.
Overall review: My next car will be the Yaris (which is the new body style, but same drivetrain). Don't hesitate to buy one, just make sure you get it inspected by the dealer before buying!

The Ideal Economy Car (Except for Design) by An MSN Autos Consumer on 11/06/2009. Trim: 2000 Toyota ECHO 4-Door, Owned 7 years.
Pros: Once it picks up, nice acceleration. Surprisingly roomy interior. Lots of storage bins, compartments, etc.. Back seats fold down for more room in already large trunk for its size (standard). Other than item in cons, nothing has gone wrong with this car. Durable (original brakes lasted almost 9 years)
Cons: Looks. One time it shows the check engine light, had to change the mass airflow sensor (as msn autos accurately mentions in the reliability section for year 2000). Rattles that come infrequently, and unexplainably disappear for a long while to come back infrequently! In cold starts, some rattling noise from the engine (but nothing wrong with it). Kind of noisy engine. When a truck passes close by at fast speed, car wobbles. Once it turned 360 deg. off the highway after veering hard to the right (light car) - thankfully person+car are ok! Slow to pick up on steep uphill.
Overall review: If you don't mind the looks, and do a lot of city driving, it's a smart choice I believe. Get the larger tires - the original are not too great. Even though mine doesn't have ABS and snow tires, I have driven it in snowy conditions frequently, although I would recommend you get snow tires if you live north as it is a light car.
