beauty is only paint deep by Holliberri PA on 08/27/2011. Trim: 1999 Dodge Durango 4WD, Owned 1 year.
Pros: at first, it drove smooth and had room for my family
Cons: I have had it 8 months and it has been in the shop EVERY month and EVERY week the last 3 weeks! First, a CV joint fell, literally FELL, out, then(after i had the dealer inspect it), The rear brakes were worn to NOTHING in the 2nd month, then oil change in 3rd month, new rear tires, then a full tune-up, and another oil change, and the last 3 weeks has been the rear brakes falling apart and new brake lines 3 weeks in a row!... ABS and BRAKE light on and off all the time. Brakes stick in wet weather. side mirrors are more of a hazard than a help. I know the mileage is high(175,000) but I'm done putting money in it!

Until The Wheels Fall Off by Momas1Man form Vicenza, Itlay on 03/24/2004. Trim: 1999 Dodge Durango 2WD, Owned 1 year.
Pros: Body Style, Interior, Sound System, Acceleration, Power, Fits my family of Five about to be six.
Cons: When accelerating under wet conditions tires spin. Bought vehicle at 50+ thousand miles and have been servicing it like clock work and oil pressure gauge fluctuates on and off at times. Been told it's a oil pump screen.
Overall review: I love my Durango and plan on keeping it until the wheels fall off(Knock On Wood). It is a great SUV for small or large families. Most of these reviews aren't being totally honest cause they have had problems with their durango or bought it after someone who didn't take care of theirs and traded theirs in.

She's tough! by Lady Greasemonkey on 03/25/2011. Trim: 1999 Dodge Durango 4WD, Owned 3 years.
Pros: My fiance and I have had a 99 Durango for about 2 1/2 years. This is actually not a bad SUV. The magnum engine is sturdy and tough, interior is roomy, handling isn't bad either. Tough vehicle, keeps on going even when there are issues.
Cons: Just like all true SUV's...Terrible gas mileage. My fiance and I are both mechanics and have done work to our durango to help improve performance and gas mileage and we're still only getting about 12 miles/gallon in the city. Suspension needs consistent maintenance (dodge defect-big heavy engine in the front, wimpy suspension). Prone to rough/erratic idle problems (normally not until about 150,000 miles +) usually due to manifold leaks or sensor failure (easily fixable).
Overall review: People, don't believe everything you read. As a mechanic a lot about how this and every vehicle performs, how long it's lifespan is, how many problems it has, etc more often than not comes down to poor maintenance. Does this SUV have issues? Sure does. Semi-weak suspension for such a heavy front end, poor fuel economy due to large engine, and so on. Basically it comes down to this: every vehicle has its ups and downs, but if you take proper care of a vehicle, it will take care of you! As far as me recommending the 1999 Dodge Durango- Yes, I recommend it.

First &Last by A MSN Autos Consumer on 01/12/2003. Trim: 1999 Dodge Durango 2WD, Owned 4 years.
Pros: We bought the car new in 1999 because it had a third row seat and could tow our boat.
Cons: The airconditioning quit working on trips longer than 100 miles. The 5 star dealer where I bought the car was either unable or unwilling to fix the problem after multiple trips back to that dealer. The transmission needed to be replaced after 55,000 miles.
Overall review: On a $30,000 vehicle the airconditioning ought to work all the time and the transmission as well as the rest of the components should last 150,000 miles. Shame on you dodge.

The Best SUV by Matt from Wisconsin on 04/19/2008. Trim: 1999 Dodge Durango 4WD, Owned 1 year.
Pros: Beautiful styling inside and out, plenty of power and acceleration, tons of ground clearance, auto dimming rear view mirror, and defrosting side view mirrors, 6 speaker Infinity sound system comes stock, very reliable, pretty much everything about this truck is great
Cons: Low gas mileage
Overall review: I would highly recommend this vehicle
