best truck i ever owened in my life!!! by robert from Caledonia, michigan on 11/23/2010. Trim: 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 Reg. Cab Short Bed 4WD, Owned 6 years.
Pros: I have owened my 99 ram with the 360 and a 4x4 for 6 and a half years, and its been the best truck i ever owened. Will tow almost anything, biggest problem i had the whole time ive had beside gen matinence stuff was the high speed sensor. which is like $15 and takes about 15 mins to change. Has never left me stranded. Great truck, very well built. wish the body would have held up, needs both doors replaced and some other small spots. Over all i would tell everone to buy one, they are a great and relayable truck. And great in a michigan winter!!!
Cons: the body, mostly the doors have rusted real bad.
Overall review: love it!!!!

Been a great vehicle over the years! by Mopar owner for ever on 11/10/2009. Trim: 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab Short Bed 2WD, Owned 9 years.
Pros: i bought this truck new in 2000, was only four previous year models left on the lot, got a great deal for it. it's the slt -larime, has all the options that were offered in it. the engine was replaced in 2003, threw three rods, dont know how though, was making ticking noise when is was just idling, got louder by the few weeks of driving only had 62,000. Defective engine, but it was all covered by chrysler, only had to pay $100.00 det. which was great. all in all, still runs great with all orginal parts in it. i see many other people stating problems wih tranny, i changed my own tranny fluid & filter when it had about 85,000 on it, and it still shifts smooth to this day with 145,000 on it.
Cons: As every one else states, the dash cracking, mine is just about all gone, the whole thing is cracked. it started when i forgot to put up the windshild visor & sat in the hot sun, at the airport for three months when i went to work in california. well, that was 5 years ago. still havent replaced it yet. but other than that, it still is running great. the power is not good, it never really had good pick up from the get go, i guess it's becouse the gear ratio is small, 3.52, now i know to look for the option of the 4.10 rear end with the 318 in it, that would have made the difference, compaired to my brand new 2009 loaded up larime i just bought with the hemi. and has the optional 4.10 in it.
Overall review: What a big difference! compaired the two trucks sitting next to each other sitting in my driveway! Dodge has come a long way in ten years! But still, it's been a good truck, loaded up with the black leather still all in great shape, fake wood trim looking good! in need of a new paint job, starting to fade a little only on the hood! As all vehicles go, you take care of them, the'll do in return.

Enjoy From A Distance by Bob from HB on 06/23/2010. Trim: 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 Club Cab Short Bed 2WD, Owned 10 years.
Pros: Seats are comfortable, steering and handling is smooth, ride is smooth. That would be about it.
Cons: Horrible brakes, wheel bearings on both front wheels wore out twice and wheels came off while driving, engine power could have been matched with a better gear ratio, fuel injectors clogged very often (always using regular chevron gas), auto transmission shifted horribly (and 2nd gear was pulvarized twice, once at 70,000 and again at 120,000), heater core went out 3 times, air conditioner broke twice and compressor would always cut out while accelerating, blower motor lost power, a/c would always lose coolant and would have to be recharged every few months or so, had the turning radius of the Titanic, cat replaced twice (once under recall), oil always dissapearing, interior falling apart, etc
Overall review: No way! Do not ever buy one of these, because it will be the worst car you ever own. Lots of the parts are from Germany (Bosch) and they will be very, very expensive. It will turn into a case of wondering, "what will happen next"? Things that seem unlikely to break will definitely break and can even be deadly. What's worse than your wheel flying off while you are going 70mph down the freeway? How about a 600 ft breaking distance from 45-0? Would you like a nice little fire coming from inside the dash while on your weekend at the beach? Please stay away from this vehicle, at all means, for your own safety.

black betty by GET-HER-DONE on 08/29/2009. Trim: 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab Short Bed 4WD, Owned 3 years.
Pros: VERY SPORTY very confertable, powerful 5.9, solid 4x4 axles a song comes to mind "COUNTRY BOY" by Alan Jackson
Cons: out-put speed sensor, 9 out of 10 with tranny problems is these sensors and on the 1999 there are two of these sensors one on tranny and the other on back diff. (dealers going to say replace tranny because they want to make money) I own a auto repair biz been working on cars and trucks 20 yrs, GAS MILEAGE is not the greatest but with a K&N air filter and a after market mufler you can get 20 to 22 mpg on highway with 87 octain
Overall review: over all good work horse and mud boggerand with the right mods can get good mpg. even good space with 3 booster chairs in back for kids

Overall review: This has been a good, reliable pcikup. The 5 speed manual transmission is a good choice.
