Best mid-size truck from 1999 by smackfan4 from Fort Knox, Ky on 07/13/2008. Trim: 1999 Dodge Dakota Reg. Cab 6-ft. Bed 4WD, Owned 1 year.

Pros: Best looking mid-size truck out there. Awesome 3.9 litre 179hp engine. Good acceleration. Goes as fast as I need it to. Handles like a car.
Cons: I only had a few problems with my truck. Its mostly because I bought it used and the owner before didnt take good care of the vehicle. Nohting major.
Overall review: This is my first truck and I'm very pleased with it. I recommend others if they have a chance at least test drive this truck.

A good truck, but there's no such thing as the perfect vehicle. by An MSN Autos Consumer on 08/02/2005. Trim: 1999 Dodge Dakota Club Cab 2WD, Owned 3 years.

Pros: styling and affordability. For performance i would definetly suggest an after market exhaust, (I have a flowmaster), and a cold air intake.
Cons: The fuel efficiency is horrible, and even though the engine is very reliable (v6), it's not very powerful (And yes I understand that it's only a V6). The transmission acts up every once in awhile (not grabbing second like it should), and the OSS sensor is very problematic.
Overall review: A good buy as long as you don't mind spending gas money.

She's paid off BUT I'M STILL PAYIN' by Jerry from Jacksonville Florida on 08/23/2004. Trim: 1999 Dodge Dakota Club Cab 2WD, Owned 6 years.

Pros: Stylish sharp-looking truck but that's about the only good thing that can be said about this vehicle.
Cons: Reliability is EXTREMELY POOR: before 20,000 miles I have replaced the following: new water pump & thermostat, cooling bypass hose THREE batteries have been installed in this vehicle already! New brake sensor anti-lock brakes also a brake job as well Tires cracked around rims Goodyear tells me they advised Chrysler NOT to use these tires on this truck! (sounds like another FORD EXPLORER fiasco to me!) chrome bumper in front is rusting headlight has burned out also front bushings on the steering column have been replaced there's more but you get the idea !
Overall review: V6 engine is a GAS HOG !! This vehicle has been in for repairs on average approx. every 1500 miles. I can only hope that my comments will help someone else to not make the same mistake I did please choose another make when you are in the market for a small pickup truck.

Dakota All around a better idea. by Redhorsesigns Mpls, MN on 07/26/2002. Trim: 1999 Dodge Dakota Club Cab 4WD, Owned 3 years.

Pros: The truck has been carefully maintained and has given 34,000 trouble free miles so far. Comfortable, (I'm disabled), V8 has good power, Great looks, I'll buy another in the future if they keep making them.
Cons: I can't really think of any. Dodge dealers I have delt with have been great except for one disagreement about the cost of a service. Only negitive I can see is no standard Tow hooks.
Overall review: My Dakota is a great vehicle. It does whatever asked, (including off roading) without complaint. I have driven to California and back from MN twice and found it comfortable on the freeway and trouble free.Size is superior to either Big pickups ( get scratched more off road due to width), or small pickups, ( I don't like having someone sitting 6 inches away). I recommend AA++
