this car is a real sleeper!! you'll like it!!! by borovchevsky from sw.pa. on 11/17/2011. Trim: 1998 Dodge Neon Competition coupe, Owned more than 10 years.
Pros: number 1. fuel econ. is (get ready)last highway trip 39.7mpg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and it has 249,526 miles on it!! no fooling number 2. even with the high miles and being 13 years old this car's power and speed will make many drop thier jaws. when i bought it new and brought it home my mom called it a pygme car.ha ha! but get the 5spd. trans and the d.o.h.c. motor !!
Cons: now any car even new ones have some problems. now remember the age and miles on it. head gasket .& rear main oil seal @ 167,000 miles. water pump @ 212,000 miles. but thats it!!! considering everything it's a pretty reliable little car. just KEEP UP ON THE MAINTAINENCE!!!!!~!!! or you'll be in trouble like some of the people giving bad reviews of this car!!
Overall review: one of the best little cars i have ever owned!!!!

Its good for me, Its good for you! by fox03 from windsor ON on 08/09/2012. Trim: 1998 Dodge Neon Competition sedan, Owned more than 10 years.
Pros: Comfortable interior, simple and easy to use all controlls. All mechanical window crank and door locks. Fuel economy Has been consistantly good. Easy to work on if you have even the slightest mechanical abilities. Parts are cheap when needed. The car now has 195000 KM on it and i bought it with 50,000 on it since buying it in 2001. Have had no major issues, all ive had to do is MAINTAIN the car. Simple things like brakes and tires have been needed, as those are meant to wear out. All factory front end parts, springs and struts still on the car with signs of little wear. Zero rust anywhere. Ice cold A/C. People need to maintain their vehicles properly!!!!
Cons: Automatic Transmission isnt desirable, would rather a 5 speed, but easy to drive in the city. Brakes could be slightly better against fading when braking hard. No cruise controll on this specific car. Nothing i dislike otherweise.
Overall review: Has been amazing to me, simply maintained the car changeing fluids on schedual. Water pump and timing belt every 100,000 km just to be safe. I plan to easily hit 300,000 KM with this car, at 195000 it doesnt even leak a single drop of oil from any seal or gasket! Will switch to a 5 speed if i come across one and install cruise from a donor car. Please dont complain that your neon is a hunk of scrap, because its not! Just take care of it or find a better mechanic whos going to tell you ahead of time about upcoming issues. This specific car still has all original engine components other than spark plugs, wires and water pump.

Great if you love spending money! by Ready2Cry from CT on 02/05/2009. Trim: 1998 Dodge Neon Highline sedan, Owned 5 years.
Pros: Good gas mileage.
Cons: After a year of no probs, water started leaking into trunk and onto back floor. Finally discovered water coming in from rear lights, so resealed them. Then fuel pump had to be replaced. Then A/C stopped working, and hasn't worked right for the last 3 years. Timing belt replaced as well as alternator. Still problematic. Heater now acting up. Check engine light is now stuck on. Multiple places have checked it, all claim cylinder misfires (all 4 misfiring) and all say that's impossible. Idle is shot. Car starts shaking around 65mph. Wind noise due to window molding design. Cup holders aren't very deep. Sits low to ground, hard for taller people or people with handicaps to get in and out of.
Overall review: Parents bought as 1st car for me. I've owned it 5 years, been nothing but gentle with it, and it has been nothing but a nightmare in return. Everything that can go wrong, will go wrong with this car. Even had to up our Triple A coverage just in case. My advice: JUST SAY NO!

Neon Fanatic by Huffster on 07/24/2008. Trim: 1998 Dodge Neon Competition coupe, Owned 10 years.
Pros: Great on gas,in the city I get 26-29, and on the freeway I get 34-39. Corners great, inexspensive to register, always passes smog test, and aftermarket parts are really inexspensive if you want to upgrade your ride. Insurance is cheap also. 1998 Dodge Neon R/T 2DR Its like owning a toy car, all maintenance is easy. 4 out 5 reasons your car gets f*%#ed up is because of the owner. People!! take care of your ride!!!
Cons: Only problem I had at 109,000 the sun roof came off the track and broke a rail. The head gasket went bad aroud 76,000, but DODGE replaced it at no cost to me. I just dont use the sunroof anymore. Paint started to fade after 9 years
Overall review: I like my little car, gets better gas milage than all these new cars out there now, and its ten years old. My car looks brand new to this day (new paint).

Baby Viper by JT Rider from Toronto, ON on 04/11/2008. Trim: 1998 Dodge Neon Highline sedan, Owned 2 years.
Pros: A sleek looking car, good on gas, the handling is good. I bought it used at 156k Kms. Very impressed with the room inside the car, seats are comfortable. Engine starts very well in the winter. Decent acceleration. Well taken care of from my friend who I bought it from.
Cons: The windows don't have frames so at high speeds, I hear some wind noise. water sometimes leaks into the trunk and the head gasket had to be replaced but already taken care of before I bought it. Thats pretty much all.
Overall review: A great car for the city commute
