by Disillustioned in Wisconsin on 10/11/2004. Trim: 1997 Dodge Stratus Base, Owned 6 years.
Pros: Very good styling.
Cons: Bought new. Everything mechanical breaks down on this car.Paint is falling off. I lose more everytime it's washed. Air conditioning went out after two years and costs $800 to repair.
Overall review: Unless you have masochistic tendencies, do not buy this car!! I've owned 3 Dodges in the past 30 years ( becausse of the good styling and I couldn't believe they hadn't fix these mechanical problems) and they all had the same problems. This car has become a hustler! Everytime I get paid it breaks down to take it's cut of my salary. Never, ever again. Three times and it's out. You could not give me another one.

Good first car by An MSN Autos Consumer on 10/14/2003. Trim: 1997 Dodge Stratus ES, Owned 6 years.
Pros: Back seat folds down. Helpful when moving. 4-door sedan.
Cons: Overactive suspension.
Overall review: It's an okay, affodable car. Does not handle as nice as some other makes, but it gets you from point A to B.

Would've been nice if Chrysler stood by their product! by Snappy from Portland, Or. on 01/16/2002. Trim: 1997 Dodge Stratus ES, Owned 6 years.
Pros: The initial performance rates of the engine, the handling, and general styling. The cars was a real thrill to drive, at least the first 8k miles.
Cons: The poor workmanship of assembly and the absence of corporate responsibility to fix known design flaws, such as repeating blown head gaskets. The plastic interior that started to creek within the first year.
Overall review: If Chrysler would've taken the responsibility to fix the known problems of the head gaskets, brake fade, and transmission problems, it would've been a great car. It seems the most Chrysler is willing to do is recognize these problems as TSB's (Technical Service Bulletins). When I asked the service manager what that meant, he said "...Chrysler has noted these problems as just that, and they are not servicing these problems as warranty items." It seems obsurd to say that to the car owner with a straight face, especially when the vehicle was in for its third head gasket under three years old. Thank God I had purchased an extended warranty to help pay for the third and fourth gasket.

LEMON by Broke down in Ohio on 12/28/2009. Trim: 1997 Dodge Stratus ES, Owned 1 year.
Pros: The interior is nice, the car body has a good look
Cons: I have had this car into the shop 9 times in a year and a half, and spent three times as much repairing it than what i paid for it. It was a lemon indeed and I'm currently looking for a new car so i don't have to fix it again, though its in running condition
Overall review: The styling of the car is great, interior and exterior, but with as much repairing as i have had to do with this car i cannot recommend it to anyone. In fact, while looking for a new car i cringe at any listing of a dodge stratus.
