Average Van.. by An MSN Autos Consumer on 09/15/2011. Trim: 1997 Dodge Caravan Grand LE, Owned more than 10 years.
Pros: Roomy, good for families.
Cons: Soon as it hit 80,000 miles, we had spend $1,000 in one year on repairs, everything from windscreen wiper motor to door locks to shocks so be prepared.
Overall review: Only buy if it has low miles.

Dodge Caravan and airbags by Mom in Virginia on 06/06/2011. Trim: 1997 Dodge Caravan SE, Owned 9 years.
Pros: handling, steering, seating were all great
Cons: The airbags deployed while driving. There was no collision, so the airbags should not have deployed. The "door ajar" light was the only warning. We later discovered that a module can break causing the airbags to deploy. The van was recalled for the clockspring mechanism, which is part of the airbag system. It was not recalled for the module.
Overall review: The van still ran great when we where forced to park it. I would love to have it back, if I knew the airbags would not deploy for no reason.

"BELT BAFFLED" by MICHELLE~HAYDEN,ID. on 02/25/2009. Trim: 1997 Dodge Caravan Grand Base, Owned 5 years.
Pros: OVER ALL THIS VEHICLE IS GREAT
Cons: ~ THE ONE THING THAT TRUMPS ALL THE PROS IS THE FACT THAT WHEN STREETS ARE WET...THE SURPENTINE BELT COMES OFF. IT HAS BECOME A HUGE & FRUSTARATING (UNDERSTATEMENT) ACCURANCE. ~ ONE OF THE OTHER THINGS IS THE OIL LEAK. WE HAVE REPLACED THE GASKET SEVERAL TIMES AND SINCE AFTER ABOUT 5 TIMES OF THAT IT WASN'T FIXED, WE BOUGHT A NEW OIL PAN AND GASKET. THE NEW OIL PAN WAS A WASTE OF $$$$$$ AS WELL BECAUSE EVEN AFTER THAT IT STILL LEAKS.
Overall review: THANKFULLY MY HUSBAND KNOWS CARS. HE HAS BEEN ABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM AFTER EVERY ACCURANCE,BUT WHEN I AM OUT WITH MY TWO YOUNG CHILDREN...IT LEAVES US STRANDED.

400K and still going strong by Seapack in WA on 10/06/2008. Trim: 1997 Dodge Caravan LE, Owned more than 10 years.
Pros: Styling and Performance are great. Very reliable and invaluable when it comes to trips to Home Depot etc.
Cons: Does not have have the stow and go seats so taking out seats can be burdensome although we do it all the time.
Overall review: Purchased new in 97, it now has 401,000 miles and is still going strong. Long life attributed to regular factory recommended maintenance. Synthetic oil, transmission cooler also add to life of car. We also towed a boat with it for two years with no problems. Summary is buy new and do all the maintenance.
