| Pros: |
| A fun car to drive around, when it actually runs.
Compared to other similar economy cars, the Neon has decent acceleration for a SOHC 2.0 4 cylinder.
Braking and handling are very good.
Expect about 30-32 mpg in general if you replace spark plugs/tune up/change oil often |
|
 |
| Cons: |
| Do not drive these cars in colder climates. You will hear and feel whining, jerking, sputtering, and get plenty of check engine lights.
Do not let these cars sit more than 2 weeks without driving. You will have electrical issues/problems.
Wiring problems galore. Unexplained electrical issues are very common. Wires rub/short/ground out in key places within the engine compartment. Very poor connectors and bulkheads. The way Chrysler ran the wire looms in the engine compartment is second rate
Prior to 80K- Head gasket failures, AC motor failures, condensor leaks, Automatic transmissions that shift poorly and normally last 90K (if lucky) |

| Essentially you need to re-engineer these cars to improve them to the point of what Chrysler should have released to the general public.
Not a car for just anybody. If you don’t keep up with regular maintianiance/fluid changes. It will die an early death in so many ways.
If you are a novice, you will be going to the dealer every 2 months because the check engine light came on once engine. .
The bean counters at Chrysler destroyed what could have been a successful economy car to compete with the foreign guys.
I do not recommend these cars unless you are a gear head, have no girlfriend/wife (she will contemplate leaving you if you do), and
enjoy laying underneath cars or hunched over an engine compartment |

| Pros: |
| I'm sorry, I can't give this car any pros due to its incessant poorness |
|
 |
| Cons: |
| Everything but the engine went, but I only kept it to 65K miles. If you got the Auto Tranny, expect to replace it every 60,000 miles. |

| The Dodge dealer told me that "parts just break down" and I quote, from when I asked them why this car kept breaking down. |

| Pros: |
| Tough car. Has only failed to start once in almost 13 years. That was due only to an old battery. Car handles good. Get's good gas milage if you don't drive too fast. |
|
 |
| Cons: |
| They put the timing belt there with the water pump pully When I waterpump went out, it caused the timing bellt to slip. I learned that I was very lucky that it did not cause it to jump timing and bend the valves before I could get it to the repair shop. This was a bone headed design flaw from Chrysler to start with. Don't know if they continued to use that on the full run of the neons and on the PT Crusier. Seats are low and require padded seat covers to make them semi confortable. |

| Overall Review: |
| The first few years of neons did not have an overdrive with the auto transmission. The pros that reviewed the car when it first came out were caught up in how fast it went from zero to sixty. They neglected to evaluate whether or not it was turning too many rpms at 83. People started to complain of burned valves by the time that the neons were a few years old and often out of warranty. That said, my "95 neon is great as an around the town car and for just driving at non interstate speeds. Neons tend to depreciate at a good clip which means that if one is looking for a used car to drive till the wheels fall out, that can be a good thing. Other than the timing belt being on the water pump pully, I have no major complaints. |

 |
| Pros: |
| the fact that it is very good on gas compared to v6's and v8's. its decent reliablity despite what others have said about this car. the aftermarket sony xplod sound system that i personally installed, and the aftermarket konig caffene 18 inch rims |
|
 |
| Cons: |
| the cylinder headgasket problem, electrical problems which cost me about 250 dollars with parts and labor at the dealership, no power windows, no sunroof, the stock chrysler stereo, the stock rims, timing belt instead of a chain, the reliablity of the A/C, and most of all some things break very easy in this car. |

| Overall Review: |
| although the engine and transmission are reliable despite what consumer reports and other reviewers may say, the engine sensors and some interior accesories needs work. this was my first car which i bought for $2,300 at a local auto auction. It had served me well during the five years that i had owned it. during those years, i had customized it with 18 inch wheels, and a decent sound system. I always had basic oil changes done every 3,000 miles and transmission flushes and filters whenever i needed it. unfortunately it broke down after the timing belt went at 106,000 miles and bent the valves |
