buy w/ caution......... by caravan owner for 5 yrs on 03/15/2004. Trim: 1995 Dodge Caravan Base, Owned 5 years.

Pros: Was wonderful when we bought it (leased vehicle prior). Had great a/c and heat, seats very comfortable, dual airbag great w/just 2 kids(3rd on the way ) and a dog. we live in GA, and it has made more trips to FL then I have, several trips to OH, TN,and SC. Pretty good value at the time.Still rust free!
Cons: Where to start? Depreciates very quickly. had it for maybe 8 weeks when the airbag recall came out.Back seats very difficult to remove. A/c belt broke, needs constant freon rechg, oil leaks, once lost an engine bolt. rear latch bolt for tail gate fell out--Daimler no longer makes the part to fix...plastic interiors ashtrays, upholstery clips fall out, as did mirror. Transmission problems. Electrical problems w/radio/clock/cass...Headlights keep going out more often than any other vehicle...wish for more leg room in rearmost seat. Very noisy int--must yell to be heard btwn front and backseats.
Overall review: parts fairly inexpensive. Really wish I had bought the Oddessy that sat next to this one on the lot. Hinddsight is 20/20,I guess. Bottom line, it'll probably run forever, but will nickel and dime us to death doing so....really like the 2005 line coming out,but very hesitant to buy another Dodge product. One friend had a 1995 Grand caravan left on side of the road when tranny failed, another had a 97 base and traded it when they learned it would cost $3000 to fix transmission problems.

Like Traveling in a Dump Truck by Johnny in Lexington, KY on 10/24/2003. Trim: 1995 Dodge Caravan Base, Owned 8 years.

Pros: Great in the snow--just pushed the snow aside and went. Roomy--plenty of space for kids and their stuff. Good mileage.
Cons: Engine needed rebuilt at 45,000 miles. Air conditioner needed constant repair/replacement. The usual Caravan transmission problems. Returned to repair shop like a homing pigeon. Uncomfortable ride--rougher than most trucks. Very loud--had to shout to be heard from back seat to front. Pain in the rear to remove the seats. Plastic bits and pieces (ash trays, vents, underseat drawer) constantly falling off. Slow to heat in the winter, lousy air conditioner in the summer.
Overall review: I'll never buy another Dodge. Finally traded this in on a tiny little Toyota truck, and discovered the ride was far better in it. Overall quality was just plain poor. No trouble with the exterior, but it looked like a box.

Dodge Peeler by FlyingFlakes from Prescott, AZ on 09/08/2002. Trim: 1995 Dodge Caravan Base, Owned 7 years.

Pros: I like the acceleration, especially up mountains, the appearance, the relative trouble free mantinance and the compliments I received on my vehicle prior to the paint dropping off in huge flakes.
Cons: The exterior paint. After three years the paint began to peel off in large blue flakes. The white primer underneath turns into a milky substance which runs down over the dark blue sides when you wash your car. I took it to three different paint shops. They all smiled when I drove in. "Another Dodge peeler." They all explained that Dodge used inferior paints at that time. The finish coat would not adhere to the primer. They all would repaint my van for over $2000.
Overall review: Like many Americans I take pride in my appearance of my cars but because of the splotchy exterior of my van I would not recommend Chrysler products to anyone. Even if they have corrected the paint problem who knows what other areas they have skimped on. The interior of my van is immaculate and the performance is fine but the exterior looks like it just came from a war-torn city in the middle east.
