The Originator, Not an Imitator. by An MSN Autos Consumer on 07/06/2006. Trim: 1988 Dodge Caravan Base, Owned more than 10 years.
Pros: Bulletproof. 18 years and over 200,000 miles, still runs like a champ.
Cons: Cosmetically it is showing its age.
Overall review: Would buy another in a heartbeat

Capable of pulling a bass boat by An MSN Autos Consumer on 06/24/2004. Trim: 1988 Dodge Caravan SE, Owned 8 years.
Pros: Can handle good mileage. Capable of pulling a boat. etc.
Cons: Somewhat constant repairs...
Overall review: My dad's van has 221,000 miles on it, and it's still working - although sometimes it misses. Sometimes when you start it, the engine will stay at 2000RPM and not drop down into idle for around five minutes. It's capable of pulling a boat without a problem as long as it's not huge. My dad says that he doesn't even realize that he's pulling the boat. While pulling the boat, it takes some good reving to keep it going up a hill at 65MPH. (Around 4000RPM) It has lots of tourqe, just not tons of power. Though I am not sure, I think when it's in drive and the pedal's to the floor, it reaches around 5600RPM. Anyway, it should be capable of going 200,000 miles and beyond.

A GREAT ALL PURPOSE VEHICLE by Buckeye Bill transplanted to Daytona Beach,FL on 03/17/2004. Trim: 1988 Dodge Caravan Grand LE, Owned 6 years.
Pros: This is probably the best vehicle I have ever owned. Plenty of power with 3.0 liter engine. Very good fuel mileage at highway speeds. The interior is the most comfortable ever for a 6+ footer. Great visibility throughout. Lots of accessories and everything works.
Cons: The paint is starting to fade--clearcoat is coming off. Some Chrysler models the paint just peeled off in sheets. Had oil leaks which are common with this engine. Has no air bags or ABS. The dash/guages arrangement is a little dated. The extra seats are easily removed but are very heavy, a 2-man job. Most oil leaks are from the overhead camshaft seals.
Overall review: I bought this van in 1998 with 123,000 miles. I do a lot of my own work, but nothing major. For traveling you can't beat an extended minivan. This van has 15" tires, not real common in early minivans. Probably accounts for the great ride. The engine has performed flawless, although now it needs valve seals as it is starting to emit smoke after long idle periods when taking off. The CV joints are another area of attention as the boots dry out/crack and need to be replaced or the joint will fail. Most people replace the entire axel when only the boot is required. A great van with many miles left. Have met people with over 200k and no engine problems. This one has 185k and still going strong. I love it!

Un-killable by Just me on 02/18/2004. Trim: 1988 Dodge Caravan Grand SE, Owned 9 years.
Pros: After I took out the seats, I found this Minivan to be very capable of hauling large and heavy loads, with very little loss of handling charactoristics.
Cons: The 3.0L engine has a rubber timing belt, which if it snaps, will result in bent valves. Computer problems have occured recently which causes the check engine light to come on with no error code stored.
Overall review: I bought this van used with 125,000 miles on it. At the present time it has 215,000 miles on the engine and while I'm looking to replace it, all I can say is that Dodge made a fine Minivan.
