Honda, Ford and Dodge just don't last as long... by Micheal in Salt Lake City on 04/08/2012. Trim: 1998 Chevrolet Blazer 4-Door 4WD, Owned more than 10 years.
3
Pros: Ride comfort, dependability, low cost of ownership
Cons: Fuel pump dies about every 125,000 miles, auto-down feature of the driver window burns up the motor
Overall review: I'd recommend this vehicle to anyone. We used these engine/drivetrains in a fleet for years. Most saw upwards of 500,000 miles and still going strong. Engine doesn't smoke or burn oil. Had to replace the transmission about every 250,000 miles. We've had more than one go over 800,000 miles on the original engine. We tried Ford and Chrysler and they couldn't come CLOSE to the durability of the Chevy. Maintain it properly and use quality service parts and you'll do well...

Still good after 6 years by Kem on 12/21/2004. Trim: 1998 Chevrolet Blazer 4-Door 4WD, Owned 6 years.

Pros: Even though the Blazer is over 6 years old, it is still one of the best looking SUVs on the road. It drives good, gets good gas milage, creature comforts are good, and is large enough to haul most common things but not too large to need a special parking. The motor is running like new...
Cons: The windshield wiper will not cut off at times...until the key is switched off. Happens about 1 out of 25 times the wipers are used.
Overall review: I haven't had much trouble with the Blazer over the past six years. I've had to replace a pulley, figured out the brakes - kept wearing out the pads on front (after market rotors were needed), and the ball joints replaced (after 6 years of service). True, it isn't the off-road hog, but then it wasn't made for that. It does the role it was made for very well - comfortable utility with the power and capabilities to go through snow, mud, haul the kids, and tow the boat.

Mo' Money by No Mo Money on 12/31/2003. Trim: 1998 Chevrolet Blazer 4-Door 4WD, Owned 3 years.

Pros: I loved this car's performance on the highway and in adverse weather conditions w/ 4wd, even though in NY, 4wd is really only needed to get you out of/in to a snow covered parking spot. Plenty of space for all my stuff
Cons: I spent about $3,000+ a year on repairs for 3 years... These where mostly "wear and tear" items and my warranty had expired so I came out of my pocket for things like water pumps, alternators, starter, and brake roters (some things more than once) Also, resale value of this car is horrid
Overall review: Understand, I LOVED my Blazer... But in all honesty, they are just too expensive to maintain. If you get one, you'd be best served to get an EXTENDED warranty.
