LOVE MY TRACKER! by Isaac from Mechanicsburg, PA on 02/18/2008. Trim: 1998 Chevrolet Tracker 2-Door 4WD, Owned 1 year.
Pros: Great on gas! Websites say 5-speed manual transmission gets 23-26mpg city-highway. Just took a trip to see fiancee in Philly & in fact got about 41mpg! (93.5mi/2.309gal=40.49mpg) Definitely isn't a speed demon or muscular SUV, but you can't have everything! VERY IMPRESSED with 4x4 of this vehicle! So far I've had it in rain, sleet, snow (8in), ice (2in), mud (8in), marshy areas (6-8in), & woods, & it can keep up with my bro's `01 Jeep Cherokee Sport. Can switch from 2WD, 4WH, to 4WL. In 4WH it gets 27mpg. Very easy to parallel park seeing how it's only 12ft long. Soft top fun for summer. Controls all very accesible & easy to use. Mechanical work is pretty easy. Front driver/pass airbags.
Cons: Soft top noisy at high speeds, but that's expected. Geared very low with too much low end torque makes it very easy to jump around when shifting and makes revs obnoxiously loud at highway speeds. Doors are very thin.
Overall review: I personally love this car but I know it's not the kind of car that everyone can deal with or feel right in. I never thought that I would by a Tracker in my life, but it definitely has grown on me and I really enjoy it. If hauling space is a must for you don't buy a TWO DOOR Tracker. I'm able to fit myself, a front passenger, a rear passenger, a 100lb dog, 2 guitar cases, a messenger bag and a back pack or 3. So I guess it's alright concidering the size of the vehicle! It's nice having a vehicle that gives you the capability of driving on rugid terrain or in incliment weather and still get 41mpg...especially when your fiancee goes to college over 100 miles from where you live! Which brings up another good/bad thing. The Tracker is not known as a luxury or expensive vehicle so it's nice not really having to worry about having your car stolen or robbed because nobody would suspect you have anything of value. Which is also nice when your fiancee goes to college in Philadelphia!

Trouble free little truck by "Tracker Around The World" on 02/16/2002. Trim: 1998 Chevrolet Tracker 4-Door 2WD, Owned 4 years.
Pros: Trouble free. No problems whatsoever. Economical to run and service. Comfortable inside and very practical. This little truck should last forever.
Cons: Not a good highway drive when windy. Engine lacks power to pass other vehicles. A little bit noisy. You can feel every bump on the road.
Overall review: Excellent for the city or second household vehicle. Not too good as a highway drive or household only mean of transportation.
