The Ultimate Truck for Real by Tank from Wisconsing on 04/06/2010. Trim: 1998 Chevrolet S10 Pickup LS Ext. Cab 4WD, Owned 2 years.
Pros: I am the second owner of this truck and just rolled over 325,000 miles last week. The original owner followed the owners manual for servicing and regularly checked his fluids. I bought the truck from the original owner with 309,000 miles, all on the original motor and transmission I should add. Since then i have burned four rear tires off because of this trucks power. Over 300,000 miles and I have no hesitation to pull the boat or fourwheelers around, or to "take the ditch" at forty plus. I'm als 6'4", and comfortably drive it. I've even had three 6' 3" tall-plus guys in it for an hour both ways.
Cons: It is an s-10, its not a half ton, it doesn't have a v-8, and it has a speed limiter. Parts are also very expensive, such as a suspension lift.
Overall review: The s-10 Zr-2 is a very powerful, off-road capable, long living, wonder. If you take care of it, with regular maintanance, the s-10 will not dissapoint.

A Bad Product by hross14, Austin, Texas on 11/24/2008. Trim: 1998 Chevrolet S10 Pickup LS Ext. Cab 4WD, Owned 6 years.
Pros: the 4.3 lliter motor is tried and true and has a remote oil filter location for changing the oil.
Cons: GM is wondering why they are not selling trucks--here is my reasons **Fuel Pump went at 70k (not to mention alot of my friends GM products also) **Water pump and Radiator at 60k **Emergency brake didnt work **Front bearings went out **Interior was very plastic and cheap **Gear Box and 4WD drive train was sloppy and clunky **Gas mileage wasnt that great **Power for that size engine was lacking--didnt feel like it had 250lbs of FT TQ **Injectors or Poppett Valves were always failing
Overall review: The reason for not bailing out GM

Like a Rock. by Rooster from Houston on 07/24/2011. Trim: 1998 Chevrolet S10 Pickup LS Ext. Cab 2WD, Owned 1 year.
Pros: Plenty of power with the 4.3l v6. Tons of fun to drive even more now that mine is lifted! Goin for an awesome little prerunner. I've hauled a bed full of bricks, dirt, and furniture with no problem at all.
Cons: MPGs aren't great but they aren't terrible. I've definitely seen worse. I average out around 15 or 16 mpg only city driving. So I don't get 20mpg city but what do you expect from a lifted truck with a beefy v6? Also, the engine design is kinda funky... well at least for the spark plugs. You have go through the wheel well to change those. Not really a big deal for me with the extra clearance from the lift but I can see it being somewhat of a problem for stock height or lowered S10s. And you have to disconnect the steering shaft to change one. But that's simple. One bolt and it's out of the way.
Overall review: Overall, I LOVE MY TRUCK! Just keep up with regular maintenance and you can make any vehicle last a long time. If you're looking for a reliable work truck with plenty of power and decent mpg, this is the truck to get. You WILL NOT be disappointed. I'm actually considering buying a ZR2 as a daily driver when I'm out of college to really work on this S10 Prerunner project.

Still crazy after after all these years by JustinHeat from Houston Texas on 12/24/2008. Trim: 1998 Chevrolet S10 Pickup LS Ext. Cab Sportside 2WD, Owned 10 years.
Pros: Loved the styling when it came out. Bought it new in Dec 97 with 3 miles on the odometer. Bucket seats are very comfortable even on a 10 hr road trip. 4.3L is very responsive and very much over powers the rear when excited. Sleek and modern even for today's standards
Cons: Tranny went out at 49K, Ext warranty covered every thing. seat controls are a little flimsy and break if used under pressure, 3rd door handle breaks a lot. Most of the trim inside as some rattle. Speed limited to 98 mph at 2700 rpm with a 5200 red line and OD????
Overall review: Has over 150K on her now and still looks like new, a few dings here and thare but still shines after a good bath. Have had the fuel injection replaced and the mass air sensor too. Last tune up the mechanic said that he has never seen a cleaner engine inside, all cylinders are at full compression.
