Great Conversion Van by Spiczar from Tennessee on 12/13/2006. Trim: 1998 Chevrolet Express G1500, Owned less than 1 year.
Pros: It is very roomy & comfortable. My van has the MK III conversion, which adds a lot of creature comforts to the traveling experience.
Cons: While the van is equiped with the towing package - intended to pull boats, trailers & such - it totally ruins the transmission. The van's frame may be designed to pull such loads, but the vehicle's transmission isn't. Also, the plastic and wiring used in the MK III conversion are about as cheap as they come.
Overall review: This is a great van. It gets decent, but not great, gas mileage. It is very roomy, comfortable and - when equiped with a conversion package - a pleasure to drive or ride in. Replacing the conversion audio/video wiring with heavy-duty automotive wiring is highly recomended, as is tossing out the towing package and never letting the thought of towing ANYTHING with this van cross your mind. Your transmission - and your wallet - will thank you later.

GM has peaked by Wimzy in Chicago area on 11/30/2005. Trim: 1998 Chevrolet Express G1500, Owned 7 years.
Pros: This was a conversion van, very comfortable seats, very roomy for front and rear passengers, good styling, good mileage for size (V-6 engine) beat several smaller SUVs, convenient layout. Sold it in 2004 with 70,000 miles
Cons: low durability, Gm engineering mistakes, GM brashness; Vehicle neede repairs that should not have needed
Overall review: Roomier than Ford, good mileage; GM needs to build in more durability

Really bad gas mileage, but poorly engineered and constructed! by Dr. Scott from WI on 12/02/2002. Trim: 1998 Chevrolet Express G1500, Owned 2 years.
Pros: I purchased this vehicle used with a top 'o the line conversion package. The interior/amenities can't be beat for long road trips with the kids.
Cons: I have spent over $4000 on brakes, tires, alignment, coolant leak in the rear A/C unit in the past 3 years. These "repairs" have been done both in dealership shops as well as other garages. Gas mileage obviously stinks- but then again you don't buy one of these for good fuel efficiency.
Overall review: I would not purchase another Chevy van. I would definitely buy "Japanese," but alas, they do not make a full-size van. I plan to dump this tank in the very near future.
